Thanks for that encouragement riverdancefan. Your ds always sounds so incredibly busy so I can understand why he won't try next year

BUT....on the other hand.......don't you think West Side Story would suit HIS dance skills, like my ds
Now amanda has told me about the twitter hints I can see from them that West Side Story might be put on in Manchester, which be brilliant for us, if ds got in

. Is it totally out of the question for your ds riverdancefan????

Istn't there a young lad in WSS called Baby Face?

It's just the finances really , Manchester would be perfect for our Northern friends .
The casting for 13 and for The Dreaming saw cast members from Grimsby, Cheltenham, wales, Matlock, Cornwall...... Far and wide really ...

I am a bit out of date, but when my DD did NYMT there was talk about financial support/ bursaries for those who were struggling to fund themselves. Your son is a proven talent to them so you never know they might reduce fees in some way. It is never easy to cast a show with lots of boys who dance . (Still all speculation about WSS though!)

no you are right Amanda - there are bursaries available as DS has been involved in some of their fundraising this year - not sure what their criteria are. I am guessing low/no income..
there were some amazingly talented older teens, male and female, performing this year, for example in Songs for a New World..NYMT attracts the best, as does YMT I think although we haven't worked with them.
I think I need a break next year despite WSS being one of my favourite all -time musicals. We haven't had time to breathe really since my illness and treatment earlier in the year, and my sick pay ran out so I was on SSP for a while (GPs can be some of the meanest employers)
WDTW isn't one of my favourites
I will go and see WSS if they do it - I guarantee it will be fabulous!!

I'm sorry to hear thativerdancefan

I hope your health is improving now.I completely agree about alot of GPs as employers

(I am a GP) - I know the Equality Act (covers disability law) practically backwards as I have a chronic illness and have to battle for myself and some of our employees to be treated fairly according to the law! I have been forced to consider retiring on grounds of ill health this year - but if I did we couldn't afford the music lessons, dance class fees, drama fees, English Youth Ballet and summer course fees etc....which would be heartbreaking

I think you're right. He is one of the Jets. As ds mixed race he would probably have a better chance of being cast as a Shark though. As he is tall he could get away with looking older than he is, hopefully...

I was really pleased on the 1/2 term NYMT course as ds given a few lines to say as the Cat, in Honk the Musical, at the end of Wild Goose Chase song. I had ALWAYS wanted to see him try that role, and he fit it really well (says I, proud and biased Mum!)

Hi. How do you find out about the auditions and also, if your child was successful, how do you manage if you don't come from the London area? Do the children stay there or would we have to put them up somewhere? Sorry for all the questions

Hi mogs. They have posted the details of their productions in the last 1/2 hour here
http://www.nymt.org.uk/auditions/auditions.html
I thought the productions were done as a 2 week residential course, but I may be wrong. I know last year they used the boarding school Sevenoaks, in Kent, over the Easter holidays.
Sadly West Side Story says 16 years upwards

But NYMT are doing TWO completely new works as well as WSS and WDTW, which makes it very interesting, and maybe there will be more places overall

I have worked for some fabulous GPs hecouldshine
Sadly these two are not amongst them ( I am their nurse )
I had breast cancer and after 3 months despite working for them for 12 years and earning them all of their QOF points they put me on SSP ....so had to come back earlier with bad radiotherapy burns...
Still that's another moan not for here....
Needless to say, I'm shopping around and as I am pretty well qualified have had some nice generous offers of jobs x

Thanks for posting hecouldshine. My ds would love to be involved with the NYMT. We were on hols last year when they were rehearsing 13 and he would love to do WSS - but he's only 14. The productions look interesting though - i'm trying not to even think about the cost

Thanks also from me for posting audition info Hecouldshine - we're now waiting for booking process to go live! DD thought your son was brilliantly funny as the cat too - she was part of the cockpit and one of the dancers! Great half term workshop, can't wait for the next one...

Oh thank you changemystory

So pleased there was another NAPMer in it and enjoying themselves. I loved the "cockpit" and the dancers. Had your dd done one before? I hope we can make another one but I don't often get a half term off as holiday
The audition applications still aren't "live" I see. When it went up this morning they briefly had the Birmingham audition date live and I went into it to see what it asked for. The first page wanted name, email address and a passport style photo downloaded onto it. Now I don't have any passport style photos of ds on my computer. I'm wondering if they mean passport size as well

or whether we can just quickly take a head and shoulders shot with any camera and download that. Does anyone know?
