Not even a recall this year for GSA for dd. Anyway hope the recall goes well for your ds.. Dd gutted as she said the song went really well and the pianist remembered her

What a shame ! No idea what they are looking for ! Ds has a friend on the triple threat at chichester . I couldn't believe it when I heard him sing earlier this year, he blew me away. Chichester is a great place too. Good luck to her.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes its very much a lottery as to what they want. As she got a recall last year I think she thought/hoped that she would this year as well but maybe there aren't too many places left. Who know. I like Chichester and it looks a really good course. She still has a few doubts about where its situated though but I have told her she will be too tired to do much anyway as I believe its quite a full on course and would prefer London or Manchester. Anyway 2 more to hear from and one more audition to do though so we will see.

Hi Dorothy, I know how your DD (and you) are feeling, it is a frustrating waiting game for the right place, right time, etc. My DD is on her third year of auditions, last year she didn't try for too many places as she had set her heart on funding at the college she had an offer from (Urdang). She didn't get the funding so couldn't go, but we didn't give proper thought or attention to other places so she limited her options too much, she did get 2 foundations offers though and Urdang said she could do a foundation there as well (cheaper than the 3 year of course).
This year we are going all out and did our research, and she took up one of the offers of foundation course (it could have been urdang, but we chose Performers in Essex which has turned out to be the best experience she has ever had. She loves it so much! Fingers crossed it pays off.
I have studied (not a lie) this forum for advise and I recall reading some worries about the amount of actual contact time the students from Chichester had in posts last year around about spring time. Equally, I read glowing comments. I personally have no knowledge of Chichester either way, just giving you something to look into.
It is quite literally a lottery for these kids, I think!

Sorry to hear about GSA Dorothy. Just goes to show how fine the line is between getting the recall and not. Was the first round really short like last year? I think that makes it even more of a lottery.
Good luck with final auditions and results.

HI Dorothy, Sorry to hear about your DD and GSA, I agree with Amanda, of all of them, GSA is so short that first round, it makes it even more of a lottery. Keep going and it will all come out right for her. Chichester sounds a good course and with dedication and hard work she can get where she wants to be from there just as well.
xx

Thanks everyone. Yes first round audition at GSA was just a song. She waited for the GSA Manchester audition because you are only there for a few minutes to do a song . It is so costly to travel and stay in Guildford for that length of time so its not worth going to Guildford unless you get a recall.
As regards Chichester I have spoken with one of the mums who posted on here last year whose dd accepted a place at Chichester. Her dd is on the MT Triple Threat and loves it She is really pleased with it. She says its very practical and lots of time is spent on all 3 disciplines (over 25 hrs a week I think of lessons ) and you can if you have time do extra classes such as cheerleading and other things.
I think the concern was/is the Music with Musical Theatre course which I think they may offer some people who don't get on the Triple Threat course . Although you can do the extra classes they are voluntary and I don't think they count towards your degree and lesson time is quite low. I think they do other musical theatre degrees such as acting path, dance path or vocal path but I don't know much about them. As far as I know the Triple Threat course is very good course though. I think depending on if she gets other offers and if she decides to go there we may try and go down to the place again and have a good look around, see things in action etc.

Hi
Do you know what the fees are for the Triple Threat at Chichester and if there is funding available?
Thank you

You apply on UCAS. Think the fees are around £8500 per year (maybe £9,000 but no more) . Its a 3 year BA (Hons) degree course so you can get full student loans. No top up fees

Sorry to hear about GSA Dorothy, but how they decide on such a short preliminary audition I really don't know. DS went for the Cardiff audition last year for GSA MT as then he was in two minds as to whether to do MT or acting and he felt he was given no chance to really show his talent, such a lottery of an audition. Good luck on her other auditions.

Interesting comments from others about the GSA audition. My DD auditioned there 2 years ago and had the same experience, which put her off from applying again. I was waiting for her in the coffee area, and was surprised to see her come out after what seemed liked a few minutes!
How on earth can they really see the potential in someone in such a short time, does anyone who goes to GSA know the answer to that? Thankfully so many of the other colleges really put alot of time into the audition days, even when not successful DD usually 'gained' something from the experience.
Best of luck to all who are auditioning this year, at GSA and elsewhere.

Thanks Dorothy, yes, DS auditions still a lot better than last year, he's had recalls everywhere apart from Royal Welsh and still has 4 preliminaries to go. He's very pleased as he's through to the final round for Drama Centre so really excited about that one, so going in the right direction at the moment!! Trouble is, it's great getting recalls but even more disappointing if you don't quite make it. I do think after his experience of MT auditions last year, it is a lot easier to show off your talent in acting auditions af DS always comes out feeling the panel are very friendly and interested in him and his speeches even if he doesn't get a recall.

That's really great news. Hope it goes well for him at Drama Centre and the other places
