Hi Mummyaud - don't know where you live but we went to see some of the end of year Showcases last year rather than open days, it gave us a good idea of the standard of students that were graduating :) Good luck to you for your journey on this ever changing roller coaster next year - and fingers crossed for all of those still waiting for decisions for this year, hopefully it will be worth the wait :)

My DD has a place on the diploma and a recall for the degree at Urdang. Recall/funding audition is later this month!
Don't qualify for a dada so degree is looking like the better option funding wise.
Congrats to everyone who has gained a place!! :D

Does anyone have any information on which is the better course at urdang or is the general view that they are just different i.e the degree being more academic having to do a dissertation. Its not to do with talent is it?

Hi Justeph 11

I think both Diploma and Degree students are just as talented. But from what a lady said to all the parents prior to my DD's first audition there, to do the Degree you obviously have to be 18 and fairly academic. Also you have to be a triple threat so equally good in acting and singing as well as Dance. For the Diploma you can be over 16 and there are different streams depending on where your strength lies. All the information about their these different streams are on their website. So for example someone who was not such a good singer but amazing at commercial dance or street dance is probably more likely to be asked to do the Diploma. They're all different and I don't think it's a case of ones better than the other more like one might be more suited to you than the other. Of course the funding is very different and that's why a lot of people would prefer to do the Degree, because it attracts the student loans etc.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining this very well. Please feel free to ask questions. Someone will pretty much always know the answer. I've found this site to be so so helpful. And so lovely to talk to people in the same situation as yourself :)

Megmar - if you search "Felixgirl" on here - her dd is in 2nd year diploma at Bird and also went at 16, I'm sure she will be happy to help with advice, unless you are specifically looking for someone that is going this year :)

Congratulations on the offer

Bop2thetop has explained it really well. There is no difference in the talent for degree and diploma at Urdang - its just a different route. The website (brochure section) does explain it really well in terms of the different "tracks" you can take from year 2 with the Diploma. DS is in year 1 and after Easter they begin assessments to determine which track they best suit depending on their strengths. DS chose the Diploma for this reason -( had the A levels for the degree route). They still train for the "triple threat" but with different emphasises. There is no right or wrong - just what suits best. DS remains blown away by the talent irrespective of which route students are taking.

There is always the option to convert the diploma into a degree afterwards - ( as there is for other Schools) through distance learning.

Might not be worth ruling out the the diploma as an option based on funding alone - they give some very generous bursaries for diploma students - from the second funding audition.

Hope that helps a little ...... lots of luck for the funding audition and the decision making
