Glad everyone is so positive. Keep me posted about Chichester and how your daughter is enjoying it Showtunes as my dd will definitely apply there for 2014 and I am glad you were still impressed with it on the second visit. I think its an up and coming course as it is relatively new and I liked the look of what they do. I also like the look of MTA although not a degree but they condense the course into 2 years so not a lot of holidays but it does save that extra year's expensive. The principal seems quite good and criticises the bigger places taking so much in audition fees and seeing so many people. Although I doubt we could ever afford it it is a full days audition and they provide written feedback on your auditions so dd may apply for a few other places as well for the experience (money permitting) We will try and get some workshops on audition techniques and monologues nearer the time and then its all systems go again. Good luck to your ds nigelben and your ds Tess and thanks for the positive post Robsmumma. I am sure all our kids will get there in the end and find the right places for them and we shall enjoy their company for a further year which is a positive.

Having been through this myself I know how you are all feeling - but keep positive, this is so "normal", don't take it as meaning your DCs have "failed". I thought I would give you a heads up if any of you are thinking of employment in a gap year - try to get something with flexible shifts as your DCs will need time off for auditions (and all those recalls [-o< [-o< ). My DD worked in a shop and it was OK as long as she gave warning to have the time off. However i know of someone else who got a job in a school which on the face of it was much better but she hadnt thought it through, and she had to leave due to timeoff. just something to consider.

Well.....dd offered places at Urdang, Millennium, Stella Mann, Chichester Uni and foundation at Birds....no funding with any of the diplomas.....Urdang by far her favourite, and we have appealed the DaDa decision there.....just wondering if anyone else had ever appealed a Dada decision and been successful?

Seems that most of the funding has gone to boys this year.....

Good luck with the appeal, was not aware you could do this.

Dd has offers at Bodywork, Conti and Laine, no funding yet, still to attend Bird and Urdang auditions this week.

Stressful times!

showtunes wrote: As far as I'm aware,a student loan can be applied for up to 4 yrs. There is then the option of the career development loan but this needs to be repaid immediately after the year ends, unlike the student loan where you dont start paying it back till you earn £21000.
You're dcs are entitled to 4 years of funding from Student Loan. For example...BA courses are 3 years, but if you have to retake a year for any reason, the 4th year will be funded as it acts as a 'Gift Year'. Once the 'gift year' has been used, there's no more funding. And as far as I am aware you can only apply for 4 years of funding if the course is 4 year course from the outset, eg an MA course. If you're doing a year course, and then want to do a 3 year somewhere else, I think you'd have to reapply for funding if the courses are at different institutions.
It's always worth giving the Student Loans Company a call with any queries they're very helpful.

Well, that's ds finished this year. He had RADA on Tuesday and sadly a no today, he wasn't expecting a lot from there. He did love RADA though, he said the panel were so friendly and seemed to be really interested in him and laughed a lot at his modern speech which is funny, the matter of a gap year came up in the interview which was probably ominous but he came out feeling really good and positive about himself which is great, obviously a bit disappointed today. I think he will apply a lot earlier to RADA next year and maybe start the applying process for everywhere a bit earlier.
Well done to all dc who have offers and good luck to all still in the audition process.

Sorry to hear it was a no for your ds from Rada, sounded very promising though from the panel. Good to hear he is positive. It won't be long before the process starts again and he will be audtioning again. Like you say,the earlier you apply the better I think. Good luck for next year and let us know how he gets on.

sorry it's a no but I think it's better to get some auditioning experience by applying to the schools that are further down on the list of those preferred before the ones you really want to go to, and that way your dc may get auditions through in that order, though not always the case. My dd applied to Guildhall first and got her auditon through last out of all she applied, so it may not work out - but having some auditions this year will be a really good learning experience and what to expect next year, so it's all good. They do like more mature applications at RADA, as it's a really tough course, and many, not a rule though, have done degrees first at Oxford/Cambridge, so competition is so tough. They took two 18 year olds year before last on the BA Acting, so you never can tell with these things.

Sorry it was a no from RADA nigelben but good that he found something positive to take from it. we have finished for this year too. I know DS has taken a huge amount from his auditions this year, (almost like a practice run!) and has realised that actually he is quite close to getting in, even if it was a no in the end! I feel it has made him even more focussed. I too have learnt that i have to allow him that little dip the day after, and he'll bounce back in his own time. We'll all be back here in October! :D

Sorry its a no from Rada for your ds nigelben and for a place for your ds Tess. I know how you feel and yes they do bounce back. It is good practice and they will have learnt from it and should all feel positive about the experience as getting recalls for some of the places shows that the panel have recognised something in them but as they only take a few from each recall that the panel decided on others on that day. Maybe it will be our dcs day next year. Lets hope so. As others have said it all starts again in a few months time so I think its time for our dc to have a little bit of a break, charge their batteries and then get super organised for Oct/November (well hopefully [-o< )
