Depending on what level the course is at Arts Ed you can get funding as for a degree, I know of 17/18 year olds who have done the foundation course at Bodyworks who then do not receive offers when applying the following year. Bodyworks like to ask 16 year girls to do the foundation coure as they seem to prefer the older student on their Deploma course. Well done for your dd Primrose, my dd like Northern Ballet when she auditioned but it all depends on what direction they want to take afterwards.

Yes I agree...also I can't really justify spending £10000+ for a one year course that may or may not benefit her in the long run.....

Arts Ed was for 6th Form = A levels + MT course....

Millennium is 3 year MT diploma, but without funding it is impossible..

DD has worked so hard to pursue her dreams and we honestly think that the 3 year dance diploma course will be good as she can build up her UCAS points for Uni in the future...

Can anyone tell me anything about how Hefce funding works -- dd now has a dilema in that GSA have offered her a place funded by a Hefce - I think her mind is still made up to go on the LSMT course but we want her to carefully weigh up all the costs etc and make an informed decision - she has no paperwork yet as they phoned her so probably the detail we need will be in the post to us soon but our post is dreadfully slow so any information and or opinions would be appreciated ... i know she is lucky to have this sort of dilema but it has somewhat set the cat among the pidgeons ](*,)

First of all very well done!! Hefce funding is usually for degree's and is the same as for anyone attending a university. Courses such as Central School of Ballet and Rambert where students at 16 are on a degree course are, I think, Hefce funded for example. If your DD has been offered one of the 3 year degree courses then I think you may find it is fully funded and you can apply for a student loan and maintenance loan as if she were at a university - the student loan and maintenance loan may be slightly different for under 18's. Given your slow post you could ask them to email you the details, particualarly about the funding!

thanks ever so much -having googled a bit more i think it is as you say she is 18 so would be funded like normal uni and the gov pays the difference between the conservatoire cost and normal fees - the dilema now is whether to stay with the professional one year course or swap to the degree she was so mind made up and then this has confused her ---- only she can decide i have told her to sleep on it fo the weekend either way its nice to know she had a choice and we are proud of her :D

Having been through the same sort of dillema last year with my DD I sympathise! I got mine to write down all the pros and cons for each option - IO always do with this with a difficult decision and find the process really helps. My Dd is not the most decisive person anyway!! However, I felt it was a decsion SHE had to make herself. Luckily she is now happy where she is and convinced she made the right decsion :D Good luck!!
