For those that remember DD couldn't attend her Laines audition in half term (she was ill overnight the night before at the hotel) and although they do allow date swaps for illness all their remaining audition days were full and she was number 6 on the reserve list, she got a call today to say they have a space on Mon so she will get to audition there after all :D

Best of luck to her. My DD starts at Laine (they've dropped the S by the way) in September.

Has anyone ever had their deposit back from a course which their youngster decided not to take up? Basically Urdang (Foundation) are wanting a £500 deposit (gulp!) but we are still like everyone else waiting to hear about dada's.

Good luck for Monday. Lots of rest over the weekend (apart from making a nice cuppa for you on Sunday!) Hope it goes well x

I am sure that if you are awarded a DaDa they have to give the deposit back. Phone and ask and say that you are waiting to hear about funding. I would hope that if you paid it, didn't get a DaDa and therefore couldn't take the place they would have to give it back. I'm sure veryone is in the same position so they must be used to waiting.

Some do say non refundable sadly.

Not sure if all is clear on the deposit insurance question. Is the DaDa you're waiting for for the foundation at Bird or other diplomas elsewhere? I get confused by all this but I didn't think you can get DaDa for foundation courses?

I think it depends, if you are waiting to hear about a DaDA for the Diploma at Urdang, the same place as you would pay a deposit for Foundation, then they should refund the deposit if you accept the DaDA from them.

If you have a Diploma offer that you would be unable to accept without a DaDA then that college shouldn''t charge a deposit. As there is no funding for Foundation that doesn't apply.

However if you are waiting to hear about a DaDA from a different college, then I might be mistaken but I can't see why Urdang would return it if you go elsewhere. The whole idea of a deposit is to secure the place, it would be meaningless if they were returnable. It is definitely worth asking if they are willing to extend the payment deadline to give you more time though.

Wondering if you can help me with 2 questions please.

1. DS has arts ed audition in 10 days. I have heard places get offered as the auditions take place so I presume that by the time the audition will come round there might not be any places left as number of places are limited. Does anyone know how it works?

2. DS Shakespeare monologue that he was going to act is not of a young character - will this be putting him at a disadvantage?

Do ask the college. I believe legally if they don't return the deposit and subsequently fill the place then that's illegal and you could sue for the return of your money. A deposit cannot be used as a profit making exercise

The geniuses on the forums at moneysavingexpert.com can offer good advice of they don't give you the deposit back

Thank you so much soda - that is very kind of you. Keep me posted on your dds good news :D
Hi Soda, dd just heard she got an unconditional offer from GSA.This was her second year of trying- it seems they like them to have completed some sort of Foundation first, but I may be wrong. I guess it depends on individual.
Good luch for all your dd's future auditions and keep me posted :)
Well done to your dd's Stageyails and Soda. What an achievement! Good luck to everyone else with their auditions! xxx
