Masterclass is a charity based at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, London which provides free talks and workshops with leading theatre professionals for anyone aged 17 – 30yrs.
Opening Doors is a series of events aimed at those finishing secondary education and looking for advice on training options and how best to begin a creative career. These events all happen at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and are free to attend. To book visit the Masterclass website: masterclass.org.uk

Thursday 8 July, 1pm – 5pm: Getting into Drama School, GEOFF COLMAN
Geoffrey Colman, Head of Acting at Central School of Speech and Drama will talk in depth about drama school, its context as a higher education option, what you can expect from an acting course and how the application process works. Geoff will then work with six pre-selected participants on their drama school audition pieces. This will be a fascinating opportunity to see what is expected from drama school audition panels.

To apply to work on stage with Geoffrey, please send an email with Acting as the subject, indicating:

Why you would like this opportunity
Which drama schools you are thinking of applying to
The piece you would like to work on
Your age
What you are doing now (ie: school / college / university / gap year / other – please specify)
Your contact details (email and phone no.)
To: info@masterclass.org.uk by Tuesday 22 June at 5pm

Please note: We cannot respond to all applicants. We do not see an application as a booking so please do remember to book as normal.

Friday 9 July, 2.30pm – 5pm: Musical Theatre, GERRY TEBBUTT
Gerry Tebbutt, Head of Musical Theatre at GSA will begin this session with a discussion about choosing to study musical theatre, what you could expect from a course and how to prepare for applying and auditioning. Gerry will then work with six pre-selected participants on their musical theatre audition songs. Some dance might be featured too. This will be a fascinating opportunity to see what is expected from audition panels for musical theatre courses.

To apply to work on stage with Gerry, please send an email with Musical Theatre as the subject, indicating:

Why you would like this opportunity
Which musical theatre courses you are thinking of applying to

Monday 12 July, 2.30pm – 4.30pm: How to get into Stage Management
Stage management is essential to the making of any production – from a school play to a West End show – the role of the stage manager is key. This session brings together three professionals working in the industry to talk about how they discovered stage management, what the training options are and how to get started. This will be a brilliant session for anyone who wants to know more about working backstage.

The panellists are:

Isobel Perrin, a Company Stage Manager with extensive experience in the West End & Touring sector. John Pitt, an independent Production Manager who is also an external examiner for stage management courses. John is the Chair of the Stage Management Panel at the National Council for Drama Training and Shane Thom, resident Deputy Stage Manager at the National Theatre who has worked on numerous in-house productions

Well done to your dd geogierose did she get picked out from her application - =D> =D> thats a great sign if she did. We looked at applying for dd but the 9th and 10th she is booked to sing at concerts so worried we would get stuck in town.. do tell us how it goes ..... dd just found out that this same man is directing the MT summer school she is going on - we are so pleased as we thought the GSA summer schools may not be staffed by the full time staff so even more excited now and just so grateful to her nan for making the summer school possible . dd is likely to be applying to the same schools as your dd I should imagine so maybe their paths will cross on their journies soon.. x
If you dont buy a ticket how can you ever expect to win !!
