Hello all....I am a complete novice in the world of child casting auditions....but would love some advice please? My DD has just been accepted on to a modelling/casting agency books, they have said the auditions are after school.....that will be fine. We can get to central london every day no problem by 5pm....

I work 3 days a week, if she was lucky enough to get a job , i understand the photo shoots are during the daytime....if I had a weeks notice of the date, i could change my work days to chaperone dd to the job....but the agency did mention that sometimes the jobs are the day after the audition....could somebody with experience in this field please tell me the liklihood of this.....also if you are sent for an audition, do they tell you the date of the job before you go to the audition, incase the job falls on a day that you couldnt go? Is this making sense.....I think i am beginning to maybe over analyse/panic!!

I have asked my local council for their chaperone list, which i have....66 names on it....does anybody use a chaperone to take their dc to jobs....and if so, are they happy to do short notice jobs....such as the next day? I am faced with ploughing through phoning all of the 66 names....ideally I'd love a local retired chaperone....oh dear.....can someone please reassure me....not sure how! Feeling a bit over whelmed! :?

hi, In my experience there is no definate set rule as to when you find out the dates of the jobs. Most of the time for TVCs & still shoots for advertising your agent will know the dates prior to casting,& will let you know this before you go , so you dont waste your or their time. There can be very little gap between casting & the actual job, think 2 days was the shortest time for us, Id say usually 10 days to 2 weeks( but no definate rule).Sorry cant help with chaperones, never used one.Am not sure but could a grandparent/auntie/sister ect not be bribed into taking your daughter if you are not available. Youd have to check this-dont know if they have to be crb checked ect.
Dont panic! You work only 3 days a week & live in commutable distance to central London! I'd say that puts you allready at an advantage to most of the mums on this site. Oh & Finally Good Luck to your daughter for all her forthcoming auditions . :D

My ds did a lot of modelling as a yooungster. Most jobs were very short notice - many without a casting/audition. I could do school holidays but a very keen and active grandma did much of the running around. She had to be part of the deal when we signed him up - in fact she took ds to meet the agent, not me! Do you have an enthusiastic family member who could help out and might enjoy this great hobby?

Hi
interesting debate. Do you still need a licence for the modelling jobs, and if so how does anyone magae to do short notice shoots?

Yes licence required! My daughter has a 6month licence,so no need for a last minute rush!Do know of people who have missed out after being cast as their LEA wouldnt grant a licence in time!

Hello again...and thank you all so much for the replies....unfortunately the only family in London is an elderly granny, who would love to help, but is unable to do so.... I am just worried about wasting peoples time I think.....but the ten days to two weeks time scale would be fine.....there is a friends daughter who may help while waiting for her uni place to come through....will check if she has to be crb'd....the website just asks that a 'responsible adult' accompanies child.

I am a chaperone myself, but have only used the license to help backstage at numerous dance shows that my dd has been involved in....the world of modelling/commercials etc is a whole new world! I would love to hear from any of you mums who know...what is the general routine at a day's photo shoot? Although maybe no two jobs are the same.....what is the average start/end time....is there anywhere in London where most jobs seem to be? I am really excited about the whole thing to be honest!

Yes...we need a license and a six month one is being applied for......the school has suggested that they would only like one day a month to be spent away from school on average if necessary.....does anyone have tips for castings etc.....I am here to pick your collective brains! :D
