Anyone got advice on what to put in the submission box that goes with a spotlight submission. It only allows 200 characters. New to this self management lark and dont know what to say. The CV itself stands the test of inspection if we get that far!

I think it depends what it is and how much information you already have. If it says something like: "must be a good gymnast" and your ds/dd has recently done well in a competition then you could obviously mention this. I think it's just a chance to draw attention to something on the CV which means the submission should get a second glance. It might even be something about availability or location or something in the family history that seems pertinent. It's a bit like sending a covering letter I suppose. If you can't think of anything then I shouldn't worry. I'm fairly certain that many of the submissions will just say "please consider me for the role of xxxx".

In my experience of casting, if the face fits then someone will look at more details. If it doesn't, then it probably doesn't matter how eloquent you are.

Thanks PG thats what I was thinking. Bit of a culture shock from Independant as the agent to self representing!

No you cant see details unless you are registered as care of spotlight and only then if you are in the adult section.

Also, just for information for anyone else looking at the thread:

The information that is sent to those who are c/o Spotlight (i.e. unrepresented) will also be sent to agents. There is likely to be a fair amount of information sent to agents that is not sent to those who are unrepresented.

Spotlight are ( I believe) intending to change the system this year (for adults - I don't know about children) so that those who have agency representation will also be able to see the breakdowns their agents are getting (though they won't be able to make submissions themselves).

I just had a quick look at the Spotight website

There are getting on for 8000 adult actors and actresses registered. Spotlight's own statistics of jobs covering the whole industry (TV, dance, film, live events, commercials, musicals etc) was an average of 198 breakdowns per week. An average of 483 individual roles per week. That's not many to share between 8,000 is it? It's no wonder so many of us are out of work!!

Casting Call Pro apparently has over 25,000 members.
