Hello,
Im currently with an agency called Geraldine Gillman Associates
I have been with Geraldine since November, I am on Spotlight yet have not even had one single audition. It's ridiculous as I am now 18 and have been trying for quite a few years, and I find more auditions myself, so it's not a problem about not enough jobs etc.
I was wondering whether anyone had any advice, or any other agency ideas who I could join? I live in Bristol, but regularly in London, so either an agency in Bristol or in London is great!
Please help i'm getting desperate!! haha x

Hi there!
I would recommend that you arrange to meet your agent and ask what you can do to increase your chances of being called in for auditions before you look for other agencies. You are now at an age where agency representation (with good agents) will be quite difficult to obtain, as the competition increases as you enter the adult arena (joining all those who have trained at drama school or who have drama/performing arts degrees).
What sort of things have you been able to get auditions for by your own efforts? Has this been paid work? Do you know what your agent has submitted you for over the last 6 months? Have you talked to your agent about your career? Did you talk about what you would be doing to look for work and what the agent's role was?
I do think there is a common misconception about what an agent's role is and about how much influence they can have over how successful you are. It is essential that a performer makes contacts, researches companies, hunts down opportunities etc. at the same time that an agent is doing so. It sounds as though you are already doing this - which is great. When you say you "find auditions" - do you mean that you find them advertised, or that you have already attended auditions for things you have applied for yourself?
Tell me more about your experience so far and about your ambitions for the future and I will see whether I can offer any more advice or information!

Hi,
have you got decent headshots? they really have to stand out on spotlight and if you have a 'look' its good to highlight this in your photos eg red hair pail tanned dark whatever your look is,
also if you play much younger, does this show in your current photos? if theyre good then It can be just a waiting game but if you have an agent its easier than if you dont cos you get taken more serious even an an open casting... its all about perciverance why dont you do extras work while you wait? (Im gonna get shot for saying that
) its usually accepted for teens I have found tbh though.

There's nothing wrong with doing extra work (check with your agent though, my agent certainly prefers me not to do it) providing you don't put it on your acting CV. I think (once you are in the adult acting arena) you need to think of extra work in the same way as working behind a bar or in a restaurant. It's a way to earn money - and usually more interesting/less demanding than lots of other part time jobs. It is very definitely considered "lesser" work though (I don't think this is reasonable, but it is unfortunately the case) so don't publicise the fact that you've done it - just bank the cash!
