hi, my dd is 10 and has always been really into dance. She recently started at a school that has a talent agency attached. She has had loads of oppotunity to perform including a part in the Annie tour. Where she was chosen above girls who have been at the school for years. She loves to perform and just shines on stage. My issue is I am happy for her to take classes for fun but the whole industry isn't what I would choose for her long term. Having said that I do want to support her in whatever she does choose to do with her life and am happy to take her to auditions and stuff.
Anyway dd really wants to join the agency,(who I believe charge a fee) and I know the school use every oppotunity to squeeze as much cash as possible out of us parents. I am considering joining her up but I don't have any idea of what is usual for an agency and whether I would be best to approach other agencies to see what they offer. I know the school agency do get work but I have no idea if my dd is talented enough to get any auditions/work on the large scale as I only have the other kids from the school to compare with and obviously I think my dd is amazing
I have read in other posts that location is a big factor, we are situated less than 1hr from west end.

you should not have to pay to join an agency...you may have to pay for some proffessional photos for her portfolio, but that is it..
Is she allowed to join another agency not attatched to the school at all?
Is it a full time or part time stage school?

thx for repling. It is a part time school and I haven't signed anything to say she can't join any other agency so I'm assuming they can't stop her doing so.
I have looked at a few of the websites for agents mentioned on this site and most seem to class themselves as model agencies 1st and formost. Is this usual? Is there any benefit in having an agent that considers themselves to be a talent agent or doesn't it really matter?
Another thing is the profile pictures you mentioned. I guess it would vary from one agent to another but could you give me some idea of what the price range you would expect to pay for this.
I feel a bit like a fish out of water in that I have no idea what to expect and I know how many scammers there are out there.

have you looked at Sylvia Young Agency or Abacus, Bodens etc..
they are all agents for tv/film/stage etc..
aer you allowed to say which school it is?

My DD had to have Spotlight pics done for her Full Time Theatre School and they cost around £100-£150 (their choice of photographer) but I am sure you can them cheaper than that..
