I subscribe to Kids Casting Call Pro ,Starnow and The Casting Website, all of which I pay for.It is great to share information about castings and which website they are on but it really annoys me when people ask for all the details of who to contact etc regarding roles advertised because they can't be bothered to pay to join. This has been discussed many times before with others who found it unfair too. Also i think a lot of the younger users pointed out that their parents will not pay for them and they cannot get jobs/are at school etc. So it is not always the case of not being bothered to pay. I don't know where the thread is but I think the general consensus was that if you don't pay you don't get the details, but at the same time, don't post that you have the details or will pm certain people, as others will ask and it was like dangling a carrot you can't have (even though you have paid of course and others have not, i think it it easy to see the upset on both sides, but of course there are differeing views).

I personally cannot pay for any of the sites as i am a student (and am definitely one of those living off pasta!) but i can also see your frustration.
Sometimes however, some of the postings on the paid sites can be found on the free ones like Mandy, and the contact details can sometimes be found if you do a little digging.

Bit harsh oaa.....have you ever thought that some of us just can't afford to pay??? Your first post - please don't make assumptions & tar us all with the same brush. If you don't want to share, then don't mention that you can or could as xebonykissesx suggests..... [-X

Maybe I was a bit harsh but I had just read a post which people asked for the details and there was was a long list of "and me" after.Just for the record...I am a single parent with a 14 year old daughter and a son at Uni .

Hi oaa and welcome to NAPM :D I'm sorry your first posting has needed flameproof clothing :( :( :(

Can totally understand what you are saying. Ash is suffering under the onslaught of requests - see here http://www.notapushymum.com/phpbb/viewt ... 13&t=14349

Hope you find you can stick with us on here despite this welcome :D

The reason that I posted on here is that there was a casting advertised on Starnow which was shared on NAPM and lots of people had asked to be pm'd with details to apply.I totally agree that unless people share info then others could miss out but surely the info should be on castings that are accessible.I appreciate that some people cannot afford to subscribe but there are others who could. And just for the record I am a single parent with 2 children ,one aged 14 and the other at Uni and I spend every spare penny on my kids.

If you don't want this reaction, then don't post - simple....
Anyone who is subscribed to these expensive (and sometimes pretty dodgy) sites will get the same email alerts and so get the same details - they don't need to have them posted here. Anyone who isn't subscribed (in most cases anyway) will not be able to make contact with whoever's casting anyway....cos they're not subscribed - d'oh! So no point in posting the details (and dangling the carrot as xebonykissesx said)& the folks who DO have the spare cash to subscribe to these places will not be bothered by anyone....there - simple solution: share if others can make use of what you've found out (if you want to that is of course!) and don't share if you don't want to be bothered!

Oh and in 5 years of posting on NAPM, it has been very rare that I've come across a first posting from someone that tells us all off so....(ie [-X ) So maybe that's why oaa got the reaction she did Hecouldshine....

Hi oaa. Welcome to NAPM.

I think it was a bit hasty to jump in and criticise with your first post! This is a very supportive site and we do all try to help one another out when we can. Those you have seen saying "and me, please?" may well be long-standing members of the site who have forged relationships and who have shared information in the past. You have made a bit of assumption with your post and it wasn't very diplomatically phrased!

On the other hand, I entirely sympathise with your viewpoint and I think some of the requests for information are naive. Also, as Irishdancer had pointed out in a number of other posts, when people sign up to the sites they pay for, they usually also give an undertaking NOT to share any information (one can understand why the sites ask for this undertaking!) and risk having their membership suspended if they are discovered to have shared it.

It does make me sigh a bit when I see yet another post asking for "any more details?" "how can I apply?". It makes me sigh for two reasons:

1. Sometimes the information is readily available with just a bit of lateral thinking/googling. Heck, sometimes the information about who to contact is actually in the forum post giving the information (which is, as far as I have seen, always the case with things that Ash posts). It's when people ask for MORE information that it can get a bit wearing. If there had been more relevant information, the original poster would almost certainly have included it!

2. If the information ISN'T available by doing an internet search, then it means that the information is almost certainly not available to the general public. Full stop. This is for very good reasons (again outlined by Irishdancer and others). Casting information is carefully guarded because CDs don't want unfiltered/unfettered applications - unless they are casting the net very wide, in which case they information is likely to be readily available on the usual (free) sites or in The Stage.

The sort of information that probably is worth sharing on this forum is the sort that is fairly local to you - i.e. the sort of thing that may not make it to the free internet sites or The Stage newspaper. This is the sort of thing Ash frequently shares. Of course, it's also helpful if you happen to spot a big open audition in case that hasn't made it onto these boards yet.

It's really only worth sharing information if it is either 1. clear how to apply or 2. gives contact details about how to find out more.

The kind of gossip/"what's in production" stuff is interesting, but is almost never going to lead to a casting opportunity unless you have an agent. If you do have an agent it is ALWAYS worth asking them about something you have spotted: they are far, far more likely to be able to get more information than any of the people posting on NAPM!

On the other hand..........

One of the very useful things that happens when people ask for more information about something they have spotted is that it does mean that there is more than one pair of eyes looking out for scams/dodgy dealings (all too frequent in this business unfortunately). In my opinion, this benefit balances out the many- largely futile - posts asking for information about how to apply for big budget movies - without an agent.........the grammar is pretty hopeless in this paragraph, but hopefully you catch my drift!

Thank you pg for your unbiased comments, you are so right in what you say. This is my first posting but I have viewed the sight for quite a while and find it really helpful and interesting.Everybody is entitled to an opinion and so if people disgree with me then I am fine about it.My original post wasn't meant to be detrimental to any one on NAPM I was just airing a view.

I personally don't dangle any kind of carrots the subscription sites do, I provide full casting details with the open posts I get from my network

BUT I NEVER post any info I get from subscription sites, 2 reasons

I pay for that
The terms and conditions require you not to

FYI on pay sites........

This issue occurs when people see the casting on the public facing site - these are the true dangly carrots (designed to make you sign up to the sub site) not NAPM
are unsubscribed to the relevant site
post NAPM with a request for more info,
they do not understand that the sites often provide no more detail to the subscribers - just an apply now button
Some NAPM MAY have more details as their DC's have been or are going to a casting
BUT it is pretty inadvisable to share that as the CD then get's deluged with speculative applications they didn't want and wont respond to.
People then get cross the CD doesn't respond and mail again, this is the quickest rout to NOT working in the industry

PS I get fed up when people pm me for.......

feedback on their casting (I am not CD)
where is the casting (in the post)
when is the casting (in the post)
how do I find out more (in the post)
What is happening at the casting (dunno I am not the CD)
can you tell me what the CD is for this castingon starnow, casting website, KCCP, etc etc etc (no..... I have no idea)
why has this CD not contacted me ( dunno I am not psychic ! but could have a good guess see paragraph above)

I share becasuse I get email of all sorts of auditions many unsuitable for my kids due to disatance, skills, age range etc and share them on.....
so in your book, I shouldn't share these cos I don't want to be bothhered by the idiots above ???? [-X

Totaly agree with Ash, thee are so many who have posted in the past who do not any more because for this, as for KCCP and Starnow like ebonykissesx says if u goggle can usaly find it for free some where else. Only certin CD like to be contacted the rest dont so the one who dont mind u can easly find out there email address if u can not find it then they do not want to be contacted, . Like Ash has said its not paying members who post about postings on Starnow and KCCP it people who are not paying members who post trying to get info free so no one is dangling a carrot not paying members any way. if u send yr dc deatails in and dont get contacted CD dose not want to see them if u get an audition and ae not contacted then they are not intrested quite easy really. Best to go along and then forget about it. At this age its just a bit of fun great for them to look back at if they get work its not the end of the world if they do not get an audition or get a part there are other things in life for them like school and other clubs they go to. so if some one posts then look at it carefully look at the email address and who the CD is the dates that are given and dont keep on bothering members who have been nice enough to post they dont need to get 100s of pms its pritty clear really

I don't think gypsymumnot was referring to you specifically but simply anybody who posts info WITHOUT relevant details shouldn't really do so if they don't want to get a million and one responses of 'please pm me too'. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think it was in reference to those such posts (those without relevant info/details) that gypsymumnot was referring to. But now you have clearly pointed out that you do not post such threads.
I for one am incredibly grateful to those like you on here that do post these sorts of things.
