Hello all!
I was wondering if any of you could share your experiences/give me any advice on how to juggle acting ambitions and GCSEs!
Of course I would like to achieve good results & will work hard, but I was wondering how I should go about still going to any agency auditions I am invited to?
Hopefully this could help any other people in my position?
Thanks in advance!

At 16 I am having the same problems/ concerns aswell.

I am doing less now than I used to, because GCSE's are really important and I think that if all doesn't go well in my chosen career (acting) I'll have something to fall back on.
I'm still doing plays etc but keeping it mostly local.
As for agencies, I think you are auditioning for D&D? I am too (hopefully) . When I was with my last agent I explained to her what was going on and she was very understanding. I don't know if this goes for all but I would definately say it is something to ask about at auditions.
Others may have some better advice but I hope this helps.

Hey

Yes I sent off my application to D & D yesterday

I haven't heard back yet but I'm hoping that that is just because it is the weekend

Ok thanks so much for the help! I feel the same about having something to fall back on XXX

Hi,
I am 16 and am doing my AS levels and so am facing a similar problem. Luckily I already have an agent but I do still have the frequent dilemma of having to decide whether or not to go to an audition because of school work. I generally only go to auditions if they out of school hours but I also take it one audition at a time - if the audition was for something really big or if I fit the brief exactly and so thought I had a reasonable chance of getting the part then I may even take time out of school to go.
I have received some very helpful advice on the matter from this site in the past. Here (
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15339&p=178420#p178420 ) is a link to one of my past queries on this matter. Although the advice given is quite specific to my particular dilemma it also contains some very good general advice.
I would say that if you are invited to an agency audition outside of school hours then go for it. If it is inside schools hours then try make a calculated judgement based on how much you like the look of that agency and how much school you would have to miss.
Also remember, once you have done your GCSEs and no longer need a license you will find getting an agent much easier.
Hope any of that helps and lots of luck with both getting an agent and with your GCSEs

My middle ds is Yr 10 so GCSE's are on the horizon. It is difficult to get the balance right. He has the lead in two musicals at the moment (playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at school and Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors). He is also on a theatre critic programme (chosen by his school) so he has to review lots of shows. Whilst he loves every minute he is so busy. Over Christmas he just took a long break doing some revision for his mocks. Guess he is doing what he loves so I can't complain but school work must come first. He has mock exams all ths week so life should get a bit easier next week.
I don't envy all you kids trying to make the right decisions over what to do. Good luck to all in this position. I think it makes the kids more organised.
