I would be grateful if any one could recommend any great (humorous?) monologues or suitable poems for children or teens please? Or a website/book they found useful?
Also in your experience would you go for humorous or serious? thanks so much in advance for any advice

We bought 'audition speeches for young actors 16+' by Jean Marlow.

It's aimed at 16-18s and had some useful tips but tbh we didn't find anything in the 'male' section that hit the spot. You can probably get it (or similar) from the library.

How about picking something from a favourite book. Best to choose something that you like, and suits your own character, personality, age etc

I agree with tikka. Try to find something which you have a passion for. Getting speeches from Audition books can be dangerous, as many people do them. I’m guessing this is for Auditions? Think of a classic Children’s story or a Dickens, Blyton, Pullman etc and there will be a play version almost certainly, and have a look through those. It’s always good to just read as much as you can.

Thank you both. Yes it has been quite a struggle to find things for boys...so, can I just check - it is acceptable to just read a short speech or passage given by a character from any book? There is not the expectation that it should come from certain 'offical' monologue books? Thanks so much

It depends on what they have asked for. Sometimes they say 'from a published play', sometimes you are given a few pieces and have to choose one. If they just say prepare a short monologue then you could do what you like. If its for an agent then they just want to see what you can do!

I am quite new here, but when my DS did his first audition I wrote one for him. I made it personal to him, so that he would remember it and also understand it. I thought this way he would give the best and most natrual delivery.....It worked and he got the part.
