Employment after drama school

Hi all. What are people's views on the opportunities for employment on leaving degree level courses. My DS has an offer from MV and Rose Bruford and we want to look at the best for employment on leaving. We are also weighing up the cost despite dada asthe living costs aren't included. So many factors to consider but ultimately cost comes into it and so does the future for him. :-k

mountview I'd assume would be more expensive for living costs - because of where it is ?

Are they both Acting courses? They are both good courses, however the environment for RB is far better than for MV ;) I don't think they have had their showcases yet as reading the reviews for them can be enlightening. Basically I think the employment prospects are pretty dire for anyone coming out of any drama school in the next few years  I would go with his "gut" and how much he liked the "feel" of the place. Also look at the courses breakdown in detail and see which appeals more - although broadly similar there are different emphases in different places (eg how much time they spend on screen work, how much classical etc)

Good luck!! Its hard when they have to choose!

Dh is curently teaching at Mountview and until recently was teaching in a college very close to Rose Bruford. In terms of travel costs he feels it is easier to get to and find accommodation in North London although he uses B& B's one day a week rather than full time student6 accommodation.

Certainly the students at the other college often have to travel in to London for auditions/theatre etc.

Both are good courses with good reputations.

Hi all thanks for your replies. I agree going with the gut feel is very important and although we have the DAda its not always cut and dried in terms of finance. I didn't go to MV with him but did go to RB and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. if only I was 25 years younger I would have liked to have done something like this.
He is looking at the post degree situation and obviously that is a sensible way to look at things but 3 years is a long time if you don't enjoy something.
TBH its a great position to be in when you can choose. He is also waiting to hear from CSSD to see if he gets a final call back, so that may be the preference :-k

It's the BA acting -musical theatre course, we go back Monday afternoon hopefully it's his final audition and it will mean choosing out of three offers!

Good luck to your DD x

The course looks good but fees are mind boggling - with no DaDa or student loans
Add on living costs in London and i really don't see how anyone from a "normal" background could afford it.

Well DD has a no from Central today :( However, if I am honest, I am not too disappointed .... I don't think she is quite ready for drama school in London yet! So we have recalls for the RADA and LAMDA foundation courses this weekend and still on the reserve list for LIPA so still she has done well as a young Y13 in her first year of applying. On a happier note she has just had a call from her agent and she has a very interesting audition on Tuesday, so hopefully onwards and upwards. Jackpot, good luck to your DS on Monday [-o< [-o< [-o<
