I don't have much experience and want to audition for an agent, is there any specific requirements which would help me stand out?:)

Hi Nisha

I think you might be putting the cart before the horse here. Have you been invited to audition for an agent? Not everyone who applies gets invited to audition. Different agents will ask for different things, so it does depend a bit on what you have been asked to do. I would be delighted to help if I can with any more specific questions about auditions :D

You can check first on each agency's website to see what they say about how and when to contact them. That's the first thing (they all tend to work in slightly different ways). Then you just need to send them a good photo, a CV and a covering letter. A lot of them will accept submissions via email. There is a lot of information about this kind of thing on this site, so you just need to do a search and read through threads to find the information - though if you get stuck and want an answer to a specific question I would be happy to help. Please do take a look through threads first though as the question has been asked and answered a few times.

You may find the following two publications helpful:

Contacts (published by Spotlight). This lists pretty well every agency in the country. It's available from the Spotlight website or from big bookshops or from on-line sites like Amazon. You can often get secondhand copies very cheaply, as it is published every year.

Actors' Yearbook. It comes out every year ;) - so again, secondhand copies from previous years are often available at low cost if you don't want to buy the latest one.
This lists agencies too - though not quite as many, it does give more information about how and when to contact them . It also has lots of very interesting articles which may be particularly valuable to those starting out. I thoroughly recommend it.

I've realised I may have misunderstood your question...

If you are asking about what you can do to make yourself stand out in your application so that the agency wants to audition you then there will be a few things

1. Your photo - it will be important, perhaps one of the most important things that will grab their attention or not
2. Your CV/experience - what have you done that is interesting? Have you ever worked with anyone they have heard of?
3. Do you have a showreel? This isn't essential at application stage, by any means, but it can be something that will interest them enough to take a quick look
4. Your location, your availability and flexibility - these are things they will consider if they like the look of your photo and CV. They need to know you can get to auditions if you are called in.
5. Your covering letter - I don't think this is hugely influential, though others may disagree or have differing experiences. It is more likely that a bad covering letter will get you put in to a "no" pile than a good covering letter will get you in a "yes" pile. Make sure you check spelling, grammar etc. Address it to a person (do your research) not Dear Sir/Madam. Keep it short and sweet and professional - it doesn't have to be formal, but it shouldn't be pleading! Make it specific to the agency you are applying for.

I hope that helps!
