Hi all,

I found this site a few months ago and have really enjoyed reading all the posts and I have learned heaps along the way. Although some of it isn't always relevant as we're in Australia, it really is a great resource for those of us new to the sport. So thank you!

I needed somewhere to vent about DD's audition today and figure this is the best place to get understanding and sympathy!

Today (Monday) is a public (bank) holiday and we had arranged to have a play date between DD (7yrs, only child) and her best friend.

Last week we got a call asking DD to do some more voice-over for a CSA (community service announcement) she filmed earlier in the year. It's almost ready to launch but they needed a few extra lines to complete it. Anywayz, I thought today would be a good day and DH could take our little friend for a walk to the shops while DD did her voice-over work.

I then got an invite from my best friend to join her family at a park in the city for a picnic lunch to celebrate her birthday. It worked out well as we are on one side of the city and the voice-over was on the other side of the city in the late afternoon, so a picnic lunch in the middle seemed ideal!

THEN I got a call last night asking if DD could come in for an audition today for a film. I explained that would be fine but I would have another child in tow and they said "Actually that works out great as the film requires two children so they can audition together if they like".

Perfect!

Nooooooooo! Disaster!

For some reason I completely got the time wrong for the audition and while we're having a leisurely picnic, I got a call wondering where we were.
S***t! I was mortified as I am normally SUPER organised.

So we legged it from the park to the audition and the girls were completely amped from all the rushing and when we got there they had to wait awhile and one of the production crew were chatting with them and got them even more hyper! So by the time they went in to the audition they were bouncing off the walls! I could hear them giggling and making crazy in there.

Luckily they took them in separately too and I could hear things were a lot calmer. DD is normally very composed and I know she would have calmed right down on her own, but still.
Argh!

So frustrating.

Then we zoomed off (late) for the voice-over and DD had to focus again and get through it all and of course, just before they started there was an equipment failure.

So DH took our friend away and I had to keep DD calm.

In the end she did a brilliant job, but I am EXHAUSTED!!

I'm pretty certain the audition was a dud for both girls which is a shame as it was a great project.

Lesson learned - don't let friends audition together! Don't overbook the day! Don't rely on your memory for times! And don't forget to pack a flask of something strong to sup on....

*sigh*

Oh no - sounds like a very stressful time. I'm a fatalist however, so believe that all things happen for a reason - I wouldn't worry too much - and I'm sure that your DD will have put in a good performance anyway. I think CD's see so many kids that they get good at matching the child to the right role - if they're not sure they can always call her back to check. Sounds like you're a super mum trying to make the best for your children - which is all that any child can ask for. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Ditto the above from CatKat....these things happen and they often happen for a reason. Good on you for filling your child's day with so much fun. So many parents just sit them in from of the TV and hope for the best.
Draw a line, cross over it and don't worry.

Hi Neeky78, Don't beat yourself up - you're doing your very best and the most important thing is giving our kids a childhood they'll love. Your are doing that and something else will come along soon I'm sure x

Good for you for getting it all sorted in the end and really glad to hear that us busy mums are worldwide!! As most of us (I think) are based in the UK it's good to get a perspective from the other side of the world - Welcome!

Well, I need a lie down after reading all that you've fitted into your day! Well done. At least the girls had fun. Its something to giggle at school about if nothing else!

I agree its great to have people from other parts of the world. Would be great to have some Americans too!
