Hello,

I'm a bit of a newbie and so far people have been very friendly I've been asked by the children's administrator and director to put together a short biography for my brother's upcoming performance. Have never done this before can anybody advise on essential things to include? He is young and has very limited experience apart from school plays and one performance as an extra.

If you look on the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory website there are lots of mini-biographies for the children on there, some of whom don't have much prior experience which might give you some ideas? e.g.

Hi, I wrote one for DS who is 9 years old. Just need to include what school they go to, what hobbies they have, what school productions they have done, if they go to acting school at weekends or anything like that.
At this age, they dont expect much. I also put that he loves making his older brother and sister giggle. Just thought that would put a smile on peoples faces when they read it.

I agree that including something that makes it human and personal is great - but avoid things that sound big-headed (I want to be a big star one day!) as this doesn't translate well in text.

Some kids dedicate their performance to someone special to them in their biog. My jury is out on that...others may have a view.

***** is thrilled to be playing the role of ***** in ************* and this is his first major part. ***** lives in ****** with his family and has just finished his third year of primary school where his favourite subjects are science and history. He has been attending ******* for just over a year where he has taken on a number of roles including a performance as an extra in ******. In his spare time, ****** enjoys martial arts, playing tennis and going to the cinema.

That sounds perfect to me. You don't want to make it too long because there'll be loads of other cast members to squeeze in too, so I think this is a good length. It's personal, and fitting for a young child who has little experience. I should think you'll be bursting with pride when you see his name, headshot and bio printed in a glossy programme for the first time! Many congratulations to him.

My dd once broke an arm in the middle of a run (not cross country - theatre run), she also had a film where all the girls were supposed to be wearing school summer dresses and as dd was the lead, they changed them all to skirts & long sleeved shirts, so the pot was covered!
