Does anyone have any experience/opinions about which colleges have strong preferences for certain body types?

Good post, would love to hear peoples view's on this.

My ds is always going on about how you can spot somebody who goes to Arts Ed as they have a "look". Not sure about body type but as the course is extremely physical, I would presume you need a certain amount of athleticism to be able to keep up.

I have heard from a few different sources that Laines like you to be very slight.

But I know of dancers at Laines currently who are not slight - more of a medium build.

Gosh, as if young people don't have enough to worry about throughout the application and audition process, without having to think about not being the correct height, weight, body shape for their preferred college!!

Unless you are applying for The Royal Ballet School (and some other classical schools), who do have a very strict criteria on body dimensions, my observations of those dancers in non ballet training establishments is that they come in all shape and sizes.

My comment is based on a land lady who looks after MT students from another college who had students that had done the audition rounds. Plus a graduate from Laines that was encouraged to lose weight. All hear say but does make you wonder!

If these colleges are looking for something I would suspect it has more to do with the castability of people. After all, at the end of training these students their aim is to get as many into work as possible. I think that how you look etc is probably a bit more relevant in dance and musical theatre than perhaps straight acting then, but that is just my perspective on things and I may be completely wrong!!!

Dd is currently at Laines (on a DaDA) and I wouldn't describe her as slight at almost 5ft 10. She is quite slim at size 8/10 though.
It was rumoured that they are weighed regularly but that is rubbish!

They do all seem to be extremely attractive though, but thats only a matter of opinion!

Mountview seem to take a complete selection of types
