Help about open castings and auditions !

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a lovely Easter.

My five year old son had been with Bonnie and Betty for a few years and he got some really lovely jobs. The agency were lovely and we enjoyed going to castings and meeting other parents and making friends with the other children. My son started school in September and I asked the Headmistress if he was okay to do modelling jobs occasionally and she said that was fine. As soon as my son started she said she wouldn't authorise any leave as it was for 'recreational purposes' so it was a big no. In the end my son had to leave Bonnie and Betty. Gutted.

The question I would like to ask everyone is could I take my son to open castings and auditions without belonging to an agency? How do they work ? And how do I find them? My son enjoyed his little job and found it fun going to different places on the train.

I am thinking about appealing the Headmistresses decision as I have seen an interesting thread on this site.

Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this. xxx

Welcome!

You are quite right that there is an interesting thread on the subject of head teachers and licensing which might help you to help your school with its thinking.

There are also threads about all the west end roles where children are seen through open auditions, so I suggest you put your feet up and browse through them. You'll find lots of advice and experience that has been shared, very generously, and which has a richness of content that repays the investment of your time.

Hope this helps

Absolutely you could take your son to open casting and auditions - but wouldn't you come up against the same problem with the school if he landed a role?

Open castings for screen often appear on Screen Terrier (and usually get picked up quickly and re-posted here). You can also follow CDs on twitter - as they may tweet opportunities. MT and theatre castings often appear on NAPM.

Thank you so much for your help and advice. You know pg, you are completely right, I would still have the same problem with the headmistress even if we did open auditions. I think I will try and have a talk with her, maybe she may change her mind.

All the best of luck to everyone in what ever you do. I will keep you updated on what happens. xxx
