Unhelpful in the extreme - but "I hate Windows 8"
I've spent months learning to use it- so I can't make any suggestions sorry
Are you using Windows Media Player?

You probably need to upgrade windows 8 by downloading windows media player which rather stupidly is optional on some versions installed on new pcs! - when you install it it will also add the drivers and codecs you need. The green player window usually means it doesn't know how to display the video - you might also need to install quicktime and flash player to make sure everything can be played. A pain!

I bought a new lap top in July which has windows 8 and I haven't got to grips with it yet, I don't like it. Sorry can't be of any help but thank you Paulears for those tips.
