I'm sure it's normal in the first term for DD to feel a little home sick. . DD is younger (16) as I remember? My DD auditioned at 16 got offered places but decided not to go, they are all very strong and brave. will DD be doing audition process again

Yes - she's only had moments - they have seemed to be on her longest day (so she was tired) & on Sunday nights

So she is setting up things to do at those times so she can't dwell. The teachers are amazed at how well she has adapted & she is keeping up fine

It's lovely when they enjoy what they are doing

Hi, glad everyone is settling in :)
DD is loving Urdang! They started earlier than other colleges so she is now in week 7 - only another 2 weeks til half term. She is very tired, some of the days are long - up to 11 hours - but she's really happy there :)
x

So pleased to hear all our dc settling in well - it was a long journey to get them there :) dd is in her element at Laine, tired like the rest of them but couldn't be happier - she is lucky to be living at home so has not been homesick, the downside being that she is not able to socialise as much and going at 16 means clubbing etc is out

Lovely to hear that everyone has settled in well,,.DD also commutes from home everyday as it is only 40min train journey...
Yes the days are very long 8am until 6pm on some days ( when they have fitness and pilates) and 9 until 6 on others, but she is loving it and comes home with a huge grin on her face every day. x

Good luck to all those going through the audition process this year... :D

Dd2 settled in to our local dance college and is now doing 10 ballet classes a week plus other styles (jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, alternative dance, acro/silks/hoops, body conditioning, pilates etc etc). She's also very tired but doesn't have to do her own washing, cooking etc as she's at home :) They are very full days from 9.00am (one day is a 10am start) until 5.00pm but she has extra ballet classes on Tuesdays and Friday evenings plus her alternate Sunday associate classes. She doesn't get a break during half term either as she has rehearsals for 'Nutcracker' in January. She has decided not to do DD! training currently so is concentrating on dancing full time. She's also applying for 2015 entry entry (ballet).
Dd1 is loving her Musical Theatre course. She has 12.5 hours of core dance (ballet, tap, modern, hip hop) a week; private singing classes; has already peformed on stage at our local theatre (she had one of the main dressing rooms and really enjoyed the experience!) and has other performing experiences lined up. They also do MT repertoire and acting and have teachers from Bristol Old Vic, Mountview, Arts Ed and dance teachers who have worked on tour with groups such as The Saturdays etc. She also has long hours and comes home exhausted but it's great to have both dds at home :)

Even though that is all a good few years away from my daughter it fills me with dread.Well done for those that are 16 and managing days like that, well of course not those who are just 16,anyone who can cope with gruelling days like that.
Great to see that they are enjoying it.
I would like to know whether distance put anyone off from making a choice? It surely must be a big factor in deciding where to go?
