Staying with friends or relatives

Hi, my DS is off to Bird in September and will be living with Granny. We've had somewhat conflicting information about what he needs though. As he's 16 he would need to be in supervised lodgings if he wasn't with Granny, and he's getting a full DaDA for fees but no maintenance. We're paying rent to Granny so he doesn't eat her out of house and home. Does anybody know if we need a rental agreement and rent book to satisfy DaDA requirements or not? Is it sufficient for Bird just to have her details?
