Audition formats and technique

I’ve noticed that my DD does better in audition formats where she can prepare her own monologue and song rather than workshop-based formats where no preparation is required. Is this something that may hold her back? Will training help with this? I’m not sure what it indicates - maybe she lacks the confidence with no preparation or struggles to think on her feet? Has anyone else’s DC had the same issue? If so, did they over come it?
