Re: Bird Accommodation

Aww thanks! We are really chuffed. Facebook pages are up and running and groups are forming - I feel we need to get ourselves over to Sidcup one weekend to get a feel for the place. I have never been as I wasn't able to go with her to her auditions (as I'm a teacher) so she went all on her own, poor...

Bird Accommodation

DD has finally made a decision and confirms she wants to go to Bird College. We are starting to look for somewhere for her to live in Sidcup. Is anyone else out there in the same position and would like to flat share? Or do any old Birdies have tips for finding somewhere half decent? She has been ad...

Re: September 2015

Betty loves the boys - and to be honest, no wonder - from what I have seen of them at Laines, they are the creme de la creme. My DD hasn't secured a DaDA there and she is 18, so older students are also being eliminated.

Re: September 2015

Yeah, it is a 'no' for a DADA at Laine for us too according to today's email. Her first big disappointment. We can't afford Laine without funding. So it's still either degree at Urdang or degree at Bird and she is thinking Bird. It's good to have things falling into place. Good luck to all those sti...

Re: September 2015

I keep wondering it that's good or bad instead of getting on and going to Tesco or hanging the washing out or doing some work of my own... It is such a comfort to know we are sharing this hideous experience - good luck to you Pearl and all the others in limbo land.

Re: September 2015

Aaagh! Nothing in the post, sob. I know DD is lucky as she also has degree offers but friends who have decided where they are going are already sorting out accommodation - will she end up living in a hostel??

Re: September 2015

Just can't cope with this waiting - will be up at crack of dawn tomorrow pacing around for Laine letter as it sounds like things are moving. We were really hoping for a definitive response from them so we could make a decision about other places and move on, but if they are releasing waiting list de...

Re: September 2015

Yes you are right, but the Urdang course attracts an additional £3210 per year on top of the £9000 (which she could get from a normal student loan) and then the letter lists additional expenses. The Bird course seems to be just £9000 without extra fees.

Re: September 2015

DD just received confirmation that she has got the Urdang degree offer but just not sure we can afford it - we were really hoping for some sort of support from Urdang, so she will probably be turning it down. So that's one place which will become available. We are still waiting for Laine Dada news, ...

Re: September 2015

Thank you Carriecrafts for the detailed information about the Urdang courses. I personally want her to go for the degree if possible - it just seems sensible in the long run to have a degree under your belt as we all know this business is precarious and plans will change as our dancers get older. It...

Re: September 2015

Yes, she has the degree but ideally she wants the funded diploma (well, I say 'she' but I actually mean I want the funding - we will barely be able to meet costs of living if she moves from home and I worry about student loans on top, which don't appear to cover all the fees anyway. To be honest no-...

Re: September 2015

Have just THIS SECOND heard from Urdang - she is wait-listed for a DADA on the diploma and may hear within a further 2 weeks. She has already been offered the degree. Frustrating news. Check your emails!

Re: September 2015

DD did funding audition on 14th March at Urdang and am about to BURST because they said results would be posted out within 2 weeks but nothing received. Is is possible post has gone astray? Or is everyone in the same boat and they are late informing attendees from both recalls (on 14th and 22nd)?

Re: September 2015

My first post although I have been scouring this forum for months and months. Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all the contributors out there who have asked the questions I wanted to ask and to those who have answered them ahead of my dd's auditions - I simply don't know where we would have be...
