Marlows Agency - anyone any experience?

Wondered if anyone knows any more about Marlowes Agency. They have a website, with contact emails but not much info on their client list/successes. They also make it clear you are not to phone them, so don't sound too friendly! They did post on here, so may be reading this. They may have connections with CTA (who get some very bad press on another posting on here).

Just wanted someone to say or before I decide about contacting them.

I don't know anything about them, but I think the relationship with CTA is not a close one. Someone from Marlowe's agency visited this site to try to find out about CTA!

I also would not take "do not telephone the office concerning representation please" as unfriendly. Most agents are completely inundated with requests for representation and I just see this as requesting all approaches to be via email - which seems reasonable to me, and not particularly unusual. It saves wasting a phone call for you to find out that they want people to submit details via email!

I would say it's probably worth approaching them, see whether they are interested in providing representation and then make further enquiries about their experience and how they operate if and when you are invited in for an interview. They don't have any up front charges - that's a good start! Their adult clients' Spotlight CVs are available to view which is helpful.

We joined marlowes in February after trying several other agencies and finding their costs too high. They don't charge to be on their books, and their commission is pretty low. (10% for theatre work, 15% for film/TV) (Chilli kids take 20%)

They will probably want to meet you in London, we went up - it was very informal and Miles says he won't take on anyone if he thinks he won't be able to find work for them. My two dds have both had two castings/auditions since joining, plus older dd was put forward for SOM, unfortunately she was too tall!

They are still getting their website together as they have only recently started taking children on. The only ones you can see are those with Spotlight at the moment, but he advised us to wait until they get a job or two before joining that - as it's quite expensive.

My older dd went up a few weeks ago to make a DVD with all the other clients which will be sent out to CDs and put on youtube. It cost each person £20 to be on it, but we were asked about this beforehand and no-one was coerced into it.

It seems like an honest attempt to make a living by submitting talented children to suitable roles.

I'd give them a go, and say I recommended them!!!

Found this thread and thought I should point out we have NO affiliation with the Celebrity Talent Agency. We visited them as a favour to a mutual friend because we are expanding our childrens book. We were not paid to attend the casting and we do not charge our clients to be on our books, we work on a comission basis.

Our website is in the process of being rebuilt, you can see the new website at marlowes-agency.com with some of our adult clients. We ask that you dont call the agency about representation, despite this we are still inundated with calls from actors. We would rather have our phone lines free for casting directors etc, this is why we ask that people dont call the office.

I can understand why you would want to call and talk to someone as there are so many unscrupulous agencies around but you are more than welcome to email me on assistant@marlowes-agency.com and we are happy to answer any questions you have.

Just posted this on another similar thread - realise these threads are old now though just catching up

We had a bit of a let down from them in the early stages.

Applied last year and was invited to go an see them in the following half term, they cancelled the meeting the say before due to a double booking meaning they wouldnt be there (or something similar). They offered us an alternative date although the only other date they could do we had already accepted a paid booking for. As they are closed weekends and the kids were due to go back to school the following week they offered to postpone until the next school holiday, though never got back to us with a date despite chasing. Never heard anything from them after that not even a reply to our communications regarding following holiday dates or further requests to apply.

Which is a bit of a disappointment really as I had previously only heard good things about them and he mix up was on their end not ours

My little girl is with Marlowes.

Since being with them with them my little one has had several castings and a recall and they are all very good castings, car companies and Telephone companies. Miles and Lucy are both very approachable and I have never had any problems with getting in contact with them. I am really surprised that they never got back to you and I am sure it would have been because they never got your messages or some problems with the e-mails or telephones when moving offices and not because they dont care. They really are a great bunch of people who work there and I would think they would be really upset to hear of your bad experience. I personnally would email again and say that you haven't heard back after leaving a few messages.

Hi, Sorry for being late. 4 years late.

One of my best friends is with Marlowes and she says they're great. She has these really nice headshots, video where she talks about herself and Spotlight. She hasn't had any professional job yet, despite being with them for quite some time. I hadn't heard of Marlowes before she told me so it's not too well know and don't have the best clients, who prefer to go to places like the Robert Kelly Associates and theatre schools like Italia Conti. However, they don't charge joining fees and have reasonable changes when they find you work. Overall, I think it's a good agency (I think I might audition when their books open)

I think they say no phone calls, is that because it's damn annoying. Some people think they can phone 100x a day and get a part. It's very rude and just makes you dislikable. They'll contact you back if they think you're right for them, so if they don't just move on because agencies have connections with one another and they'll already have something negative on you in your next audition for an agency.
