ideas for gap year please?
hi,
my daughter has almost finished the audition process had a couple of recalls but no offers, one left that she isn't too sure about so we are now looking to plan her gap year and then begin applying again for 2011. She is 18 so first year of auditioning and we have met lots of much older people doing the rounds so she is taking it well, she is off to camp america for summer so has the summer planned but if any of you have ideas on what she should do when she returns that would be of great help! She didnt apply for any foundation courses would anyone recommend any if she is not too late to apply? Havent got an agent so any advice on who to contact would be really helpful! She is a member of local theatre groups so will be getting experience with them. Thought i would seek your advice because seems you all have alot of experience!
look forward to hearing from you thanks!

Hi PS,
I dont think any of the foundation auditions have begun yet as I know Mountviews start after the degree course auditions have finished. MV begin end July beg Aug but you can apply anytime now,my daughter will be posting hers this week. Ive heard very good reports on their course but I dont know about the standard of others,Arts'ed and Rada both do foundations.
My daughter intends to work part time throughout the year then try again Sept

My son is very experienced on gap years as is now on his second
Doesnt stop - has a part time job in a restaurant which is very flexible so he does alot of filming/extra work around it. Also belongs to local theatre groups so is always involved in a show or two, either performing or directing

hi thanks for your replies and the private message sent to me, will get her to look into the foundation courses then only prob she is off to america 18th june! yes she said she would get a part-time job when she gets back, and we will can look for auditions on here of course, do you have agents? have your children been through the audition process then over the last 2 yrs? my dd is very determined so will def keep going! she's just been panicking a bit lately and worrying because her friends are going off to uni and she feels like she hasnt got anything secure?
it really helps hearing from you all so hopefully get lots of helpful responses,

Son has just finished his third year of auditions and i am very proud that he has stuck with his dream although it is not meant to be for him
It does get very difficult when friends are going off to unis etc, son always found September/October the worst time. However made plenty of new friends at work and on the filming circuit and half term and xmas comes round very quickly. Good luck to your DD in all she decides to do

hi
do your children have agents? would you recommend any? Have looked at the foundation courses but they are so expensive around £10,000 couldnt afford those ones, but yes i think be good to build up cv and many of the colleges want them to have life experience- well that could be anything couldnt it! it is so hard watching them going through the rejection but your son shows he's resilient and dedicated so i am sure that will pay off!

Mountviews foundation is £1,950 so more affordable. My daughter doesnt have an agent, she might consider getting one in her gap yr if she doesnt get onto the course.

Is Camp America quite competitive to get on to, do they look for anything in particular (ie experience working with kids)? What did she have to do to get on (and how early did she apply)?Princess Star wrote: she is off to camp america for summer so has the summer planned
Id like to apply for next year maybe. Let me know what she think of it
