Help needed to find 1930s musical hall song!

Post by steggers »

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help? My DS has an audition on Thursday and has been asked to prepare a two minute song, we thought it might be a good idea to prepare a song from the time Eric and Ernie met which was 1939. Has anyone got any ideas, I'm tearing my hair out as it has to be easy to learn and not too musical...my DS is a fabulous comedian but not a natural singer...I'm having a major panic!! If anyone could post any suggestions I would be soooo greatful.

Burlington Bertie springs to mind - def one for a comedian, rather than a singer. If I think of any others I'll let you know.
And all that jazz...!

Thanks so much, that could definately be a possiblity! If all else fails, he could sing Bring me Sunshine, but I've just got the feeling everyone is going to be doing that one lol!

Thanks Doris, you're all so helpful on here, a real Godsend!! He also has to do a stand up comedy routine which is no problem at all, hopefully he'll do that first to give him more confidence before he has to sing!

Thanks Panda, its all been a bit fraught here! He's so worried about singing we had tears last night, and I'm in two minds whether to let him go tomorrow. The comedy side is perfect for him, but if the prospect of singing is upsetting him that much its really not worth it. He's having a singing lesson tonight so hopefully that will make him a feel a bit more confident. Keep you fingers crossed!!

Neither Eric or Ernie were brilliant singers so tell DS not to worry, in this sort of thing it is the comic timing that they are looking for most because you can't teach it, it is something natural in people, two people can tell the same joke and one's funny and the other isn't. Well that's the case in our house!!! good luck it sounds a great project to be involved it.

Might be a bit late but what about "Any old iron" or "My old man said follow the van" - both music hall favourites :D
