PLEASE HELP!!!!re castingwebsite

Post by yummummy »

hi PLEASE could all you experienced NAPM'S help me. We keep gettting emails re films on the casting website and I don't know what to do! :( I have heard such mixed opinions of them that #I don't know whether to subscribe or not. I can't afford to waste the money but I also don't want to stand in the way of any offers for my DD :?

Hi
We keep getting lists through too, but haven't paid so can't actually apply.

In a way its quite handy seeing what's currently casting! I haven't heard of anyone on here actually getting an audition through them, and a lot of the films they list have already been through the casting process so often seems a bit late! If you already had an agent then I think it would be a waste of money to join. If you haven't got an agent then I'm not sure its worth the cost. Have you tried going to one of their workshops - might give you a better idea of what they are like.

A few of the folks on here have said thay have had work from Starnow but I don't recall anyone saying they have had work from the Casting Website. be interesting to see if anyone has.

hi tikka, i contacted one of the CD on the review list castingwebsite had. she said that it was definitely worth subscribing to CW and had met rob earnshaw and said only good things about him. CD credits included 2 harry potters so now I am really confused?? what do you think ?? It's a bit of a minefield I think #-o

Hi Yummummy

Not sure if you have to go to a workshop before you can become a full member, as I got the impression he was trying to make it sound like he had met all his members and that there was some selection process, but I could have mis read it. Rob is a member of this list, so no doubt he will join in and correct me if he wants to! Well done for contacting one of the CDs on his list, perhaps the casting ops are all real ;)

We would be quite happy to go to one of his workshops, but there isn't one near here.

I suppose you could join for 3 months, then let us all know how you get on  I don't know of anyone who is a member or I'd ask them.

I contacted CW and they say they will consider dd on as Approved Member as she has done lots of professional work and dont doubt her Musical Theatre experience but I have to send footage of her drama, cv, etc., So they just dont take anyone on as an Approved Member, sound as if they know what they are doing, but difficult if no workshop nearby. Something we might consider. :)

If you already have an agent though you might be on dodgy ground if you join CW as your agency agreement might mean that you have to pay your agency a fee too.

You probably have no way of knowing if your agent has already submitted your child for any of these castings via Spotlight (if your child is in it) and if they were to get cast in anything, your agent may say that they put you forward in the first instance! Not trying to be a party pooper but just thought this might happen.

Does anyone else have a view?

Has anyone on here ever been to a CW casting?

Its a bit of a minefield really as we keep getting the e-mails too and some of them look quite interesting but dd has no spare time at the mo

Might have to pay commission to both CW and agent like Dawn has said so if you have a agent who expect sole representation could end up paying naely half of money earned to agents. Yor childs agent may drop yr child if they know another agent is sending yr child on auditions

Well I cant see it being a problem as long as you know you probably will have to pay Agent 20% commission for a job he hasnt even recommended you for, but thats the same as open auditions. If you dont mind paying CW then surely Agent will be ok as its giving them work without having to do anything.

So.....who is going to pay the fees and give it a go

To be honest, although I think there is a great deal of hype on the site and I'm not totally convinced that all the ads on it are going to lead to possible auditions, if there is a slim chance it could lead to being cast for something then its probably worth a shot. Having to pay 2 lots of commision on a fee is better than no fee at all

Unfortunately I don't have the money to speculate with  , so good luck to anyone who tries it and do lets us all know how it goes.

If you have an agent the casting directors will contact them if you are successful for an audition so you could end up paying commission also!!

I passed an intake audition with the Casting Website in April and I have been asking my mum if I can join as a full member ever since. However, she is a bit dubious as to weather to pay or not. Now that you can join for 6 months it is a bit cheaper, so I am saving up so I can give it a go.

Have to say I was completely put off by the write up on here from a parent whose daughter attended a workshop run by a female CD. It may have dropped off the site now but it definitely wasn't something I'd want my daughter subjected to.

I agree with the others that if you have an agent already they may object to you joining another agency.

Just to put our spin on this, my daughter attended an audition/workshop for Wuthering heights. She came away feeling that the set up wasn't very professional and said that it just didn't feel right. Of course, that is only our experience/opinion but thought that I'd just throw it into the mix to help you to reach a decision.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Surely the Casting Website would have it all over their testimonials boxes if they had? :-k :-k
