How do you manage to.....

Post by Iggy »

sit at home and relax when you know your child is on stage performing?????
I find it very difficult, on her nights, to be at home knowing what she is doing and just being. I can not afford to watch every show but I feel I should be helping somehow??? Just can't relax.

how long has she been doing it? it does get easier with time, honest!
Life is complex - some of it is real, some of it is imaginary.

Yes, I know the feeling. When my dd was doing Chitty there were some mums that watched every night, some managed to get cheap seats, others actually sneaked in for some of the performances (I never had the nerve) and there were some mums who just spend a fortune on the best seat for every single performance. I did see a few of the shows but most nights I was at home worrying just like you. I would have loved to be there for all the shows but it cost loads of money. The kids themselves have a absolute ball and never worry one bit about their poor parents, but I guess as they get older its not so bad. All that worry but isnt it well worth it when you see their beaming faces on that big stage having the time of their life.

Week 3 of a 6 month run. Can't get used to dropping her off and going home!!! Dad picks her up in the car and that's it. She is struggling to get to sleep after. Any hints on calming down ready for bed?

I remember watching first night in chitty but because she was six hour drive away, only saw about five times, used to feel quite upset that I couldn't be there more, but for some reason never worried.

OOOH if I had the money I would have gone to every single performance and sat in the best possible seat because its a part of my DS's life and I don't want to miss it. What bugs me is if the theatre is not full why can't they offer a free ticket to a parent who does it hurt?
Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

That is a very good point Trish. It would do no harm, be a lovely gesture of goodwill and save a me a fortune in Starbucks/ Costa and (I am loathe to admit...Macdonalds) (but the sofas are comfy, they have a TV and no one bothers me...)
