drama school audition songs

Re: drama school audition songs
That's what my DD did. If they really want to do it, then certainly worth trying again. We know of a lot who got in second time around. Somehow it seems to make a difference in their auditions.

Definately worth taking a year out and trying again. When dh was working in schools rather than colleges one of his students didn't get in anywhere first time around. She was thinking of going to uni instead but he advised her to bide her time. The next year she got into Bristol Old Vic on straight acting.

Re: drama school audition songs
In the long distant past (hehe) I did 2 years at work before retrying for uni place. I was so pleased I did as I could handle uni so much better than the younger ones and had some much needed savings behind me!!!!. I had also changed my mind on the course I wanted by then, which was much better for me than the one I would have done first time round .

I know my DD felt she knew much more what the audition process was like and what they were looking for the second time around.

Good luck to all auditioning this year - we will be joining you all in the auditions but not applying until later in the year

Dh says that yes, some Sondheim can be difficult for accompanists. Did she have anything particular in mind?
Avoid anything with multiple key changes or time signatures.
He feels that if you avoid anything that is currently on in the West End it restricts you too much. For acting courses they are looking for someone who can hold a tune and can act a song, they can deal with technique once you are in to a certain extent though they will be on the lookout for any potential vocal problems.
Make sure that the music is clearly marked with any cuts, there are no bars missing (you would be surprised how many present photocopied music with half of the first bar chopped off) and set your tempo.

Re: drama school audition songs
Probably a great choice as she knows the show inside out.
They like you to know the show/book etc that you pick songs and monologues from

Sounds a good choice for her then
If she does a Sondheim she should also have a "standard" such R & H, would be good contrast.

Re: drama school audition songs
How did your daughters friend get on at Arts Ed Tuesday Georgierose ? - dd managed to get through to the afternoon recalls I think she said about 14 out of 50 stayed on so it was a pretty harsh cut. Now we wait.... dd enjoyed the experience and said the staff were very nice - so for her whatever the outcome on this one she is happy that she got the chance to fully show them her abilities-- onto the next one now not sure I can deal with the nerves although she seemed to cope fine

If you dont buy a ticket how can you ever expect to win !!

Re: drama school audition songs
My Dd loved the staff and atmosphere at Arts Ed, nice audition process, friendly staff. One thing to be aware of is to apply early if you are a girl - last year DDs friend applied late and at her audition in March was told "We already have all the girls we want, so you will have to be really exceptional today to get a place". Needless to say none of the girls did.
