ds went to the audition today, am a bit confused as he is going for a non singing part and the first thing he was asked to do was sing, my ds really isn't a singer and i specifically applied for a non singing part, maybe the children all need to have passable voices for the chorus....

then he had to go through a few scenes, something to do with some kittens and some other things, he hadn't been sent the scenes in advance so i think it was a bit tricky for him to really get into the part, has anyone else received a script to look at or are they all going in cold?

i am not sure how well it went as ds didn't seem too confident when he got home, they said there were 5 or 6 other boys going for the part he was up for and they would let us know in a week or two.

I'm a bit concerned that your ds was going for a non singing part, and there were still 5 or 6 other boys up for it! Makes you wonder how many children will turn up tomorrow! My dd hasn't been sent the script either, so I think they are all in the same boat. She is a singer though, but I thought a lot of the decision was based on whether they could do the Lancashire accent. Did your ds have to do that?
Hope to meet up with you if by any chance they both get in...........

Hopefully they will both get in, to be honest I am just really hoping my ds gets a part in the chorus, he was asked if he would want to do that if he didn't get a lead part, which we said yes to, I think it would just be fun for him to be involved at all. So fingers crossed. He hasn't mentioned accents... I looked on the starnow casting page and there were 25 applicants for parts in total, I will be interested to hear how many there are tomorrow and what they have to do. Good luck for tomorrow

Dh found out they are expecting about 40 children in total to audition.

We have just returned from the audition, and tbh I don't hold out much hope for my dd. They did learn a group song, but were then taken off to do the acting in small groups, where they had to speak in a Lancashire accent. After this they chose about 10 - 12 children to sing, and dd wasn't one of them, which makes me think they were only hearing those children sing who could do the accent. This, however, wasn't what the audition pack said, as it said don't worry if you can't do the accent already, as they will teach them! My dd did have the sense to go and ask if she could sing at the end, and she was singing when I arrived, but not the song she had prepared as no one was asked for that; it was the group song they had learnt. Also, many of the girls of dd's age it turns out, are already taught singing by the director of the show! Somehow I don't think they all started on a level playing field, as they were the ones who had also perfected the accent! It's a shame as it's a lovely show, but don't think we will hold our breath! I have to say dd's singing sounded beautiful, all of a sudden her voice has really matured, and I think this show would really suit her. Ah well!

They said they had a few more to audition next weekend, and they would let us know by the latest a week tomorrow. There were about 35 children there today.

Well, just to show how wrong I was, my dd was offered the part of Elizabeth today! It is apparently one of the main group of children and needs a strong singer, as she has at least one solo, so I am really proud of dd that she had the sense to insist on singing to them immediately after the audition! She is looking forward to rehearsals, and to have the opportunity to be in such a lovely show. I believe the children are heavily featured too, so this should be a good production for them all.

ds has been offered a 'small child part" whatever that might mean! i have asked them to tell me more about the part, but i am sure he will have fun. i wonder how many children will be taking part in the show all together.

Well done to your dd OB4 = a lovely show to be part of - is it on the big stage at Woking? Will probably come along cos I love the bit where the children sing the song "No Matter What..."

I don't think it's that version of the show Flipside. It's not the Lloyd Webber, think the music was written by Richard Taylor. The production is actually being staged at Walton-on Thames in a theatre which is apparently a converted barn. Do come along anyway!
