Has this happened to anyone else?

Post by MILLET »

Has anybody else had the same experiences as me?

Twice in the last two weeks I have had a reply via email from a cd to say could I bring ds/dd in for an audition on a particular day. I have then replied to email saying yes, when and where do you want to see us. Then nothing. No replies to emails and no further communication.

The latest incident is one where we have been told yes you have the job we are filming such a day and rates of pay and to email back to confirm and get address and wardrobe requirements. Then nothing again.

Did hAve one incident with student film about 18 months ago but these 2 latest are for paid work :?

Hi Millet

This hasn't happened to me, but I would just say that emails are not always a reliable way of getting information to people. Sometimes they get overlooked, or not delivered because of a full in-box - that kind of thing. If it's an important email, it's always worth considering a "read receipt" so that you know that someone has seen it. If you know that the person you are emailing wants/needs the information from you and you have had no acknowledgement that they have received it, I would say that this is a very good reason to phone them (or an assistant) so that you can get to the bottom of it (and to insist that you do). It would be such a shame if they are thinking "why haven't I heard back from this person?".

Do you have an agent? Could the information have gone to your agent instead? Was the latest incident for a featured role, or for a background role?

Hi Lillmisssunshine, have just replied to your pm and thanks pg for info on emails. Think this is more than likely the problem.
Sometimes I get a bit nervous calling cds as I think they might think I am some nightmare pushymum and they will think not to employ dc because they might have to deal with me. Not that I am a pushy mum

This happend to me recently after seeing something on screenterrier, I think its really rude at the end of the day its a job not some sort of volunteer thing.

harry2 - I think that's really radically different from what Millet has described, unless I have misunderstood.

If you have made an unsolicited application for something that you have seen on a website like Screen Terrier then I think you should expect to be ignored! I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, and as I say, I may have misunderstood, but if you have not been directly invited to apply then it's totally unrealistic to expect a "thanks, but no thanks" response.

In the examples that Millet gave, there had already been very specific communication about a job or audition that was not followed up. I do think that's different.

we had this twice from student films. One where DS was supposed to film next day and then the night before they said they'd called off the shoot as it was raining and they no protection for their cameras etc - would give us a call for when it was rearranged, didnt hear again, and then last week , was contacted by a bunch of students asking for DS to film at short notice as their actor had dropped out and never sent the shoot details.

I dont really trust the student things until we are there, on set and actually filming. :D When they work out its good, but half the time they dont seem to come together.

However some students that we have been in contact have been very good and professional beyond their years really. Others have been quite dippy - but hey, they are only learning :)
