When do you need a licence?

Post by igloobabe »

This is going to sound daft but in what situation would you need a licence for your child? Is it because he/she is missing school, or is it to do with being paid? My dd has never had a paid job except as a baby model so I have no idea.

It's a difficult one to answer because different Local Authorities seem to interpret the law differently!

Here is my understanding:

Strictly speaking, any filming of any duration, whether paid or not should (as I understand it) mean that a licence is needed.

If a child is paid, they need a licence.

If a child has performed for more than 3 days in any 6 month period, they need a licence (unless it's a school performance or for an "exempted body"). Paid or unpaid.

This last one is not interpreted in the same way by everyone. It's not even interpreted in the same way by people in the same authority!

Oh crumbs, now I'm not sure if she needs one to do these London cafe performances. They are not paid, and the actual performances are not in school time, but the rehearsals will be. The performances are being filmed, so is that classed as 'filming'?

Maybe I had better ring the Local Authority contact and ask her.

Yes, I emailed with details of performances and have it in writing that we don't need a licence.
