How Do Auditions Generally Work??

Post by jzd7tcm »

I am a parent new to this whole audition thing. My son recently had a callback (Weds 25th May) to London for Oliver audition with Jo Hawes and it all seemed to go well. They said they would be in touch soon but i think impatience is starting to kill us. How does this generally work? Any info would be much appreciated thanks.

Welcome and well done to your ds for getting so far. The audition process differs depending on what you are applying for. I guess most people think when do we give up on an audition? The more you are involved with auditions the more relaxed you become about them. However well it goes you can never really tell what is going to happen: I have found that my ds and dd have got through things I didn't expect them to and then not got through others that looked more likely. I agree with Deeli that it is best just to get on with life and forget it until you hear something. This forum is particularly good for finding out if people have already been told. In most auditions if you are not through you will not hear anymore unless you are right in the final stages. Also be warned that the audition process is very rarely one audition and then you are through, in my experience usually there are lots of rounds. In film auditions even if you get to film there are no guarantees that what your film will be shown. Wishing you and your ds lots of luck \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

HEllo
We auditioned for this last week and DS got to final rounds for Fagins gang along with about 24 others. some boys were asked to go back the next day ( the WEd) as they were being considered for Oliver and Dodger.
We were all told that it could be up to a month before we hear anything as they have three teams to sort out but they would let everyone know either way as they were seeing all the boys that had been in the WEst End shows separately from the ones that hadnt been and then selecting.
Good luck to us all!! :D

hi there

My son also had a call back on the Wed - the waiting is terrible - but no news is good news I suppose.Just wondering how you know that they re auditioning " children who had already been on the westend" did Jo Hawes tell you because i was wondering why it was a month to hear. I wish I could stop speculating lol.

Hi there
Im pretty sure the lady and the boy doing the register and labels said during the course of the day that the boys who had been in the West end were being auditioned on the Wed =- it was a special audition for them and no non west end boys could be seen at that time- infact thinking about it the email I got from my agent also said this!! . Boys who hadnt been in Oliver were on Mon and Tuesday, West End boys were on Wed and Oliver and Dodgers recalls from Tues were on Wed also.
I chatted to another mum who was up there and she also knew that the Wed was that format as it said on her agent email also.
At the end on Tuesday the lady came in and said they were keeping a few boys back to do extra singing and that no-one would know until a few weeks later - could be a month - and that we'd know either way!
Fingers crossed for us all!!
It is an annoyingly long wait but they did say that had to make up three teams and it would take a long time. I would have thought they'd want to cast boys quickly as they need so many and the WOZ, Matilda, and Love Never Dies Auditions are going on at the same time.

ANyway good luck to all our DS's - hopefully it will be good news when it comes!
:D

good luck to your Ds.

My ds also got to the final round of auditions last Tuesday. I agree the waiting is tough (probably harder for us than the boys) but fingers crossed for them all xxx

Was that Tuesday 24th May, or were there auditions last week. I think the closer you get, the harder it is not to think about, but if there's a long wait, its easier as time goes on, so if it is a no my Ds is a little more prepared for it.
