Casting workshop

Post by missmoneypenny »

Morning all :) Yesterday I was reading about a Casting Workshop being run by 2 well known CD's in central London - they are aimed at kids between 6 and 16, (roughly - can't remember the exact ages :? ) but are split into 2 different age groups. Has anyone done one of these? If so, is it of any value?? Sounds quite a good idea on paper, but would like to hear some first hand experiences if poss x

Is this the one advertised on kccp. I thought it looked good but like you don't know anything about them.

My dd has done one of Kerrie Mailey's casting workshops. She really enjoyed it and said she learnt a lot and has asked to do another but not had any reply to my
emails to Kerrie on the subject and don't know if she is still doing them. I know there is controversy over Kerrie's courses because she is also a cd and
agent but as long as you view it as a learning experience in its own right rather than an opportunity to be seen by a CBBC casting director then it is ok.

I know some people are not in favour of casting workshops because they could potentially stop children been natural at a casting if they think too much about it
so a bit of a balance really.

Yes, Kitty Kat, it is - it sounds like a good idea, but like you say - wouldn't want to encourage the kids to be anything but natural. Knowing the CD's involved though I don't think they would want that either though - as one of them is a CD that my dc's see quite regularly ;)

I can post the article on here if people think that's OK - it was just an info posting and not an ad for a job - what do you think?

I think pasting & copying that info, onto a public forum could still get you into trouble with KCCP!! You could simply ask if anyone has experience of the workshop in question & name the workshop( with no reference to KCCP!!)... I believe there are afew members on here that have attended these in the past, unfortunately Im not one of them, so cannot answer your question! :)

My dc's have both attended these type of workshops and not been to impressed. They thought it came down to common sense i'e what type of clothes to wear, looking at the camera, engaging with the cd etc.
Perhaps it may be of help to those children who have never attended an audition or casting.
In my childrens opinion it was a waste of time :)

I think it would be OK Janine as it is just in the info section, but thanks for pointing it out, anyone wanting to have a look can just pop on the site :)

I really just want to know what people's experiences and opinions are, we spend so much on travel etc - like many others I guess! - so I really don't really want to pay out money on workshops unless they are going to be benificial. Thank you Snookienoo, that's helpful - I did wonder if that might be the case, so sounds as though it may be more useful to those just starting out x
