From football to acting! help!

Post by footballmum »

Hi all, i stumbled across this site searching for information on casting calls and you all seem to be 'in the know' so here goes....

My DS (7) is quite a talented footballer and was scouted at an early age for 4 top clubs, he has done really well the past few years and won managers player of the year in May.....the presentation was held in a function room at a local acting theatre.
The manager (of the theatre) noticed the award and asked if he was good and told us about a 'play' that needed footballers and would we be interested.

When the information came to light it turns out it's actually a film! he was asked to send a video of him doing his skills, which we did.
He was then asked to go for a 2nd audition in front of about 5 people but they asked if he could read a script for them, well this was way out of my comfort zone as i'm only used to football trials but he seemed to do well for his first time.

He now has a call back in 2 weeks to get together with the other potential kids to read various parts, they have given him a few different parts to learn.
I told the casting director my DS only came for a football part but they said they liked him thats why they are asking him to read scripts.

He seems fine with it all and wants to do it but i have no clue what to do or how to prepare him...all this is a first to me???
What happens after a call back? Is this a normal senario? i notice a lot of you talk about agencies but obviously we dont have one!
Any help/advice appreciated....Thanks!

The usual reason kids are cast is because they match a part not for some great acting ability. Therefore, dont try and prepare him, just let him be himself, and dont over learn the lines as they will sound learnt not natural. If you work on anything than focus on him listening to the other actor and reacting to them not just waiting to give his lines back.

Other than that just enjoy the experience and worry about any logistics if they make an offer.

what a lucky little boy your son is! the fact that he has a call back already implies that he's got what they are looking for so I would second the advice on being natural at the audition. Hope it goes well and that he gets the part! best of luck

Sorry for the late reply!

Thank you for the replies...we went on Saturday and it was manic!

The kids were asked to be left for 3 hours so we went shopping in Manchester, we came back after 2 hours to find 37 kids running around the hotel haha.
They were put into different groups to read different parts although DS read the same part all afternoon, some kids only went in once but DS went in 5 times, what this means i don't know?
It was a great experience but we are now waiting to hear and they said it will be towards the end of the week, this waiting is awful i don't know how you 'regulars' cope, i'd have no nerves left if i did this all the time. I will post again once i hear something. [-o<
