Having to Re-Audition for my agent

Post by AbiTheActress »

Eeeek, my Agent has decided that she will not be dealing with extra work any more and is going to focus on main parts only. This is great for me because I was not interested in extra work anyway but now we have to re-audition to be on their books. Does anyone know where I can find any good monologues and does anyone have any tips for me? (It has been a while since my first audition with her)

How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I think there is a good monologue book called Audition speeches for 6-16yr olds by Jean Marlow, but if older maybe a character from a film you identify with. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

If I were you, I'd take the opportunity to find a new agent. If your agent needs you to re-audition, it's because they cannot remember you. If they cannot remember you, do you really think they were promoting you up to the audition date.

So many people think that they must have an agent. The truth is you want a GOOD one. If they need reminding what you look like, sound like and appear to be - it's time to find somebody who actually wants to represent you.

Phone your agent and just say "Hi, Jane here (or whatever your first name is)" and hear them squirm while they try to work out who you are. If they don't know, then they are an agency, not an agent.

I agree with the above. Maybe find a new agent. Depends how many castings you've been put up for with your current agent and if the castings have been the right criteria....ie. You find yourself completely unsuitable for the breakdown but were sent to a mass casting.

Where are you based? I can recommend an excellent agent whose books are currently open. Are you on Spotlight? How old are you?

I am considering getting a new agent as I have found over the last few months the submissions and castings have pretty much dried up, unless I want to be a waterloo road extra (which I live nowhere near so cant do yet get submitted every week for despite telling them I cant). I'm 18 and I'm based in north lincolnshire at the minute, but I sensibly chose a university in London to go away to in September which will probably put me at an advantage in terms of acting. Do you think it would be best to re-audition and stay with my current agent until I could find another agent willing to take me on. The reason everyone has to audition is because she is 'condensing' the agency, is that a good sign or bad?

Hiya, did you mean it was an extras agency who are now changing to just acting work? How strange.
I'm also hoping to find an agency, although it seems unlikely right now. I've one year left at a London uni, so good luck Abi! :)

Ahh, no, sorry I'm really bad at explaining things, they are an agency for actors and extras and they have now decided to only deal with main parts.

I thought you could have meant that :P Did you decide whether you're going to look for a new agent? 8)
