Should I apply for 'Lessons in Lifesaving'?

Post by RiaRocks »

Hi :)
I'm thinking of applying for the 'Lessons in Life saving' feature film that's on Mandy and Starnow but I'm really not sure whether it's worth it- I don't have any screen acting experience or done anything professional yet. I don't think I'll be contacted back by them if they see that my so-called 'CV' is just am dram performances and performing arts schools.
The feature film sounds perfect for me- but I really don't know if I should apply...
Help please??? :?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. What's the worst that will happen, they won't reply or say no! The best that could happen is they like the look of you or are intrigued and offer you an audition. 'YOU HAVE TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT' as they say!

I quite liked the look of this, too, for dgd. I agree, go for it Ria Rocks - they're not looking necessarily for someone who has done films before. As they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good luck!

My DD went for a casting for this last Monday. It seemed to go really well, and half an hour after we left, the director called my mobile to say how much they'd liked her and how they were definitely recalling her and checking availability. Although we're normally quite cynical, he seemed so enthusiastic that we allowed ourselves to get a tiny bit excited - then he e-mailed again 2 days later to say the recalls were still not arranged, but to hold on in there and he'd be in touch and "speak soon".

Then...nothing. I KNOW I shouldn't be surprised, and I could kick myself for getting DD's hopes up by telling her what he'd said. I sent a text to him last night to ask whether she was still in the running (it's meant to be filming from this Friday, so time is getting on) and I've had nothing by way of reply - no "thanks, but no thanks", no "not quite there yet but should be able to let you know soon", nothing.

SO I'm assuming it's not good news - it never is when people are suddenly uncommunicative and unavailable, but I thought it was worth asking people on here if they'd been cast, or knew someone who had - at least that way we can forget about it, which is all I'm after at the end of the day - a conclusion!

Oh how frustrating for you ... this happened with DD and a short film for the BBC she went for last year .... lots of correspondence and then nothing. We heard several days after they issued a 'release' on their website that they were using an actress they had used for a previous short film ](*,)

Hope it's better news for you ...

They are looking for a body double for the girl (Age 8-12) to be in the water whilst they set up shots!
