Sheet Music for Audition
Hi all....my ds is auditioning for 'Oliver' at Curve Theatre, Leicester and has been asked to bring sheet music for a song of his choice. It must be no longer than 2 minutes and i need to get hold of the music quickly. I know all NAPMs have been so helpful in the past this was my first port of call as we are stll newbies to this game
I will just mention that my ds is great at 'Popular' from Wicked and this would be his first song choice but all arrangements i find are too long
Any advice would be really appreciated xxx

A student of mine did 2 minutes of popular for an audition, you just cut it yourself..

Thanks Coco....i will give them a try. What worries me is that nobody we know plays piano so how do we know the song he practices will work well with the sheet music? He has a few other songs up his sleeve like 'i want you back' and 'ABC' He's not sure if to stick with musical theatre songs or try something a bit different! Safe would probably be 'Consider yourself' but is 'safe' goodCoco wrote:Hi fairywhisperart,

Fairywhisperart - I use a very nice man called Stephen, who runs a company called "London Arrangements" - If you scan and e-mail (or mail - but obviously that's slower) the sheet music to him, he will send you back a rehearsal track at lightning speed via e-mail (normally within the day). It costs £15 and for that you get a track with the melody over the top (in case you're learning the song from fresh) and the basic accompaniment. This way as well, you're guaranteed that the way it will be played by the accompanist on the day will be the same version you've been learning.

Glad to be of help, Riverdancefan. I know it sounds like I'm on commission but I'm really not - I just believe in supporting small businesses, especially when they offer such a sterling service.
I've lost count of the number of times we've been in festivals where other competitors have come unstuck because they've never actually sung with the accompaniment they submitted before, and so get thrown by instrumental bits etc!

Thats really useful to know, thanks so much Nicola!!!!! It really threw me to be honest as we are fairly new to this game lol.
Thanks so much for the support from everyone and Jojo hopefully see you there.....lots of luck to your ds. Is he sticking with an 'Oliver' song or trying out something else? ::)
Re: Sheet Music for Audition
Not sure yet. I think he'll do something else as the director might get a bit bored of the same Oliver songs all evening! Just got to talk ds into it as he knows consider yourself really well!!

Re: Sheet Music for Audition
On a slightly different note.
Anyone know how to get a backing track of a song that hasn't been publised yet.
Its only for a school interhouse music competition but dd is desperate to sing When I Grow Up from Matilda.
Dh might be able to play it by ear if he listens to it enough times but he is is working in London.

Just wanted to say that we used London Arrangements today to get hold of a backing track for a song DD is preparing for her drama school auditions. Very quick service and DD now has a backing track to practice with!Nicola wrote:Fairywhisperart - I use a very nice man called Stephen, who runs a company called "London Arrangements" - If you scan and e-mail (or mail - but obviously that's slower) the sheet music to him, he will send you back a rehearsal track at lightning speed via e-mail (normally within the day).
