excellent news - congrats to her

Re: 2012 DRAMA SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Thanks everyone ... she is so excited
She is trying to get her head sorted for her first round RADA audition on Tuesday now. She has a slight dilemma regarding the Shakespeare speech. She did Cassius from Julius Caesar for her LIPA audition which was very well received despite being a male character ... she thinks this she performs this much better than the female Shakespeare monologues she has prepared (Portia from Julius Caesar and Paulina from A Winters Tale). Do you think she could get away with it for RADA or is best to stick to a traditional female monologue??? All thoughts/opinions welcome

Well done to your daughter. Exciting .
On the monologue front I am no expert but the general advice is to perform a piece that speaks to you and that is also close to you as a match ie. age, gender, personality. My gut instinct however would say that your dd should go with the speech that really works for her despite the gender difference. I think the same can be said for someone doing an accent piece but doing in their own accent if the piece really resonates with them in emotion and content.
Interested to hear other angles on this.

Sapphire - As long as your daughter is prepared with another monologue in her head when she goes to the audition then it’ll be fine… and interesting for her to have a male speech. I’m sure they’ll ask her why she has chosen to do it, and if she get’s a grumpy panellist she may be asked to do another. As long as she’s strong and confident with the speech and why she’s doing it, no one will mind.
Re: 2012 DRAMA SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
And best of luck to her. The RADA auditions are really friendly, and congrats on LIPA.
Re: 2012 DRAMA SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Thanks for your input Son of PG (doesn't that sound rather grand and biblical) ... I was hoping you would pop online before tomorrow's audition. After much debating and changing her mind, DD has decided she is going to go with the monologues she use for LIPA as she thinks these are her strongest ones but has worked very hard over the weekend on her female Shakespeare monologue just in case eyes roll ... positive vibes in the direction of Manchester tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11.15 would be appreciated! I'll be frazzled Mum pacing around St Annes Square

Re: 2012 DRAMA SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Bulk delivery of Positive Vibes awaiting in the lobby for dd to absorb and radiate.
Re: 2012 DRAMA SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
I think that's the right thing to do. Strong, bold choice. All the best of luck.
