CCP and Starnow
If ds has an agent and an imdb page, is it still useful to be registered on CCP and or Starnow etc?

Re: CCP and Starnow
Probably only if you think your DS would still be looking to do low-pay/no-pay work for experience. DD keeps an eye on both sites but doesn't have paid up membership to either anymore ... you can always rejoin if you spot a great opportunity!
Re: CCP and Starnow
I don't think there's any harm in having a CCP profile (it's free to have a profile, but you have to pay if you want to apply for paid work and it's not cheap!). I don't know a lot about Starnow apart from the information that finds its way on to here. I think anyone with reasonable industry experience (which I know your ds has) would easily spot which opportunities are worth pursuing and which should be avoided at all costs. Starnow does not do any vetting of the opportunities in advance and only respond to complaints etc so it is open to abuse, even if this is rare.
My impression is that CCP do more vetting of paid work, but little to no vetting of the unpaid "opportunities" that proliferate.
However, his agent will have access to far, far more information about paid work than can be gained from Starnow or CCP. It would really only be if he wanted to look for student films etc in my opinion. I do occasionally get contacted by employers via my CCP profile but it has never been for work offered at proper industry rates and is sometimes from people wanting to avoid agents (because agents will be looking out for your interests). I've had one or two ludicrous offers which have been at a tiny fraction of what the job should be paid. (e.g. £30 and no travel expenses for a commercial
). I do get invited for auditions for student films on there occasionally, though I don't generally do unpaid work now.
For obvious reasons, most agents are not particularly interested in pursuing unpaid opportunities for their clients, though most won't mind if their clients do it occasionally as long as they keep the agent informed and check that it won't clash with anything in the pipeline.

Re: CCP and Starnow
We have a paid membership on both sites and find it's a good way to ensure we don't miss any opportunities. Recently I've noticed that starnow has some more professional work on the site which might be to do with them having people out in the industry (I've seen them at the BFI Future Film Festival)
