Funding for dance college

Post by xdancerx4xlifex »

Have any of you had any experience with dance college foundation courses?

Basically it is £8,000 for the year that i am going to be there from sept 2012 and i was wondering how people fund this.

I have spoken to a few people on the course at Bird College when i have been auditioning and they have been able to write to charities to fund the course but I wondered if anyone had any ideas on where I would start/ which charities to write to?

Thankyou very much.

Hi I'm sorry but I have no direct experience of this, maybe if you posted it in the dance section you may have more responses.
Does it depend on the institiution you are going to?
I have only researched contemporary dance programmes for my dd (though she's a bit young yet!) which tend to be funded via the student loan system. I know at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds they run a foundation course but the fees are waived if you are under 19!
Good luck to you anyway :)

I don't personally have any experience of either foundation courses or finding funding. Did you apply for the foundation course or for the 3 year course? However, I have asked advice from a friend who was in your position about 3 years ago. she started by looking at National Council for Drama Training website (ncdt.co.uk ) which gave useful advice and a starting point for charities. It does seem to be a case of use your local library though as different charities have different criteria for who they will consider. The advice was also to look locally at not just charities in your area but also businesses. Basically you have to make your request/application stand out and a local connection is often a good one. Incidentally, despite the name of the website, my friend was also looking for funding for a dance college. I believe her DD found funding through an accountancy firm and she then went onto a 3 year course at a different college where she had funding. I hope this helps and good luck.

Well it's not a contemporary school it's Laines or London studio if that helps?
I am not able to get a funded place with the institution as its a shorter course than the 3 year course but i hope to get funding the year after when i start 3 year programme.
Thankyou for your help anyways :)
