Child chaperone

Hi can anyone give me any information? I would like to become a child chaperone but not sure where to start! Does this have to be a full time job? I have two young sons so not sure it would even be possible but really want to look into it

If you visit your local education authority's website, you should find all the info you need there. As I understand it, chaperones are licensed by the LEA for the area they live in. Others may know better...

I am a chaperon. Most chaperones I know got into it becasue they have a child who performs or are involved in local amdram.

Most chaperoning is unpaid unless you are a chaperone on the West End or who tours with children. I am doing my first ever paid job this week on the South Pacific tour, Jo Hawes called a couple of local theatre schools to see if they had any local chaperones.

My LA does publish a list of chaperones who are willing to be contacted by production companies but not all do this.

Its also not very child friendly hours.

Tomorrow there is a matinee. I have to be at the theatre for 1pm and won't leav until around 10.30pm so I have had to arrange for the in laws to collect my two from school and look after them. Of course it was great when dd was in panto as only licensed parents were able to go backstage.

You have to in the first instance contact your LA education welfare officer. They will send you the forms and you have to have a CRB check, provide references etc.

My DD is about to do a chaperone course for our local authority (Surrey), she has to attend 2 evenings at which she will provide her id's for her CRB check. The reference sent out was also very through, asking about how she deals with her own children! which in her case is not applicable and how she would cope with pushy parents/directors. Lots of info on Surrey website on how to apply. DS also was considering getting a licence but he lives in Birmingham, no info on their website and when we contacted them very different process, they could only do 2 applications at a time you had to go for personal interview and his wouldn't get processed in time as there were a number of applications in front of his. Both applications would have gone in at the same time and DD will get her chaperone licence in time for the production DS won't! Luckily he's not looking after any children.

Would be good if every authority did the same thing!

Mmmmm thanks for all the advice. I really didn't think about what would be involved and think it may be difficult while my little people are still very little! Will be something I will look into in the future though

You could look into getting onto an agencies books as a chaperone for (TV/Film).
