Rada must have sent off his rejection letter before he left the building! He changed his speech for Rose Bruford which made a huge difference, he feels. Any little niggle and you are out which is so stressful.

Anyway, just wondering if any of you have any negative or positive comments on Rose Bruford?

Best of luck to all those still waiting.

A bit of advice. There is a new drama school in Dublin (still at Ireland prices!) called LIR which is part of Trinity College. http://www.thelir.ie/about-us/the-lir/

I was trying to get my ds to apply as I think it looks fab. Something you all should consider!
Congratulations to your DS \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ That's great news \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ Thanks for the tip about the LIR too ... that does look interesting!

DD knows peole who went to RB and enjoyed it. Its a lovely campus - really idyllic, reminded me of some country estate like a in a Jane Austen novel :) Lovely place to spend 3 years studying and still close to London :) Congratulations!

a friends dd went to Bristol Uni , but now is applying to do acting at one of the top drama schools, because the course didn't prepare her for the industry - as the course was theory based. RADA is linked to Kings College now, and you can apply for usual loans etc, just not via UCAS as with a lot of the top drama schools...you don't have to fund yourself anymore.

Many drama schools take far less than "20-30". There are 18 in myDDs class and they are considered a big year! Also Genenviev is right in saying that many of the NCDT courses are now funded like UCAS and you ge the same fees/loans etc as other unis. There are also DaDas for others - so dont be put off if you read the blog about fees. It implies that the uni courses may give you as good vocational training for far less money and fewer hours, must say I disagree with that as well  Most uni courses do far less practical work and dont have as many industry contacts, relying instead on "in house" staff for most classes. As for costs, it costs the same to go to the unis mentioned as RADA, Central etc. - not extortionate!

As for the actual auditions, well they vary far more than implied. Many places will need 3 rounds (not the 2 stated in the blog)

That said, some of the info about monlogues etc is useful :)

Bath Spa campus is like that too, absolutely idyllic, you'd expect to see someone ride past in a horse and carriage.

I have been reading the showcases and I reckon some of these places take on far too many for eveyone to have a fair shot at promoting themselves and surely class size is going to be a key factor. CSSD only had 16 in their showcase cast against 40+ at RB and MV.

Hi jackpot. You make a good point, I do think class sizes are very important.

It's worth remembering, though, that agents and casting directors also go to see the final year shows as well as the showcase, so the showcase is not the only opportunity to be seen.

I don't think this is just a problem regarding agents etc. There is also the question of larger classes and individual attention. If there are twice as many students 9or more) it stands to reason that there will be less individual student attention. This is important as there is a lot of discussion etc, easy in a larger class to get over looked, certainly makes it harder for teacher to manage. Also fewer people getting parts etc even if double cast. In CSSD the second years are in third years show as small parts, chorus etc this is great experience for them and gives hem a taste of what it wil be like for them in year 3.

Good points from welshmum and pg, I suppose the agents must get the info from the schools on who to look out for too. I'm looking forward having a look around cssd on Monday, so let's see how DS goes on.

Hi all. DS now completed all of his auditions for the year and did extremely well, with only Bristol old Vic not giving him a recall out of the 7 he actually went for (didnt go to Laban or LIPA in the end). Typically it was his first audition so it did bring us all down to earth. I must admit I am probably as worn out as him, and a good £1200 + out of pocket. Its not cheap this auditioning lark. Anyway Central was his last recall yesterday and it was a long day and spent most of it waiting outside luckily in the sun :D . we got back home at 11pm tired and now just waiting for the result. will keep you all posted!
