Hi all. DS now completed all of his auditions for the year and did extremely well, with only Bristol old Vic not giving him a recall out of the 7 he actually went for (didnt go to Laban or LIPA in the end). Typically it was his first audition so it did bring us all down to earth. I must admit I am probably as worn out as him, and a good £1200 + out of pocket. Its not cheap this auditioning lark. Anyway Central was his last recall yesterday and it was a long day and spent most of it waiting outside luckily in the sun . we got back home at 11pm tired and now just waiting for the result. will keep you all posted!

No news yet, but it may take a few days. Having spent a bit of time around the area, I did like the feel of CSSD and very handy for tube etc, so it will be high on his favourites list. But like most auditions/ interviews you never quite know what they are looking for. If its a no, i think MV will be the place of choice....just go to try to stump u the fees and living costs then!! as soon as I know, i will post it on here x

bit worried my dd may be a lot younger, and noticeable less mature than other drama school students to go in as school leaver Its not like Uni where there's so many same age - Clearly she's mature for her age in some respects,performance wise, but just a bit concerned it may be too much too soon for the demands of such a course, and if she will miss out not being with and having friends around her own age - any help would be appreciated

Although my ds, who is in his first year at Arts Ed, is 20, two of his housemates had only just turned 18 when they started in September. They have coped perfectly with the demands of college life together with living away from home and fending for themselves. They did all move into the house they all share a couple of weeks before the start of term so they could get used to their new life away from home and make friends other students so were quite familiar when college actually started. There really is quite a mix of ages, but a lot are at the younger end of the scale too. Hope this helps a bit.

its emotional development as well I'm thinking and being able to have things in common with other people when there's not a lot of life experience behind them.. but I guess as your saying..they all muck in and have to learn quickly no matter who they're with.
I remember my ds going to Uni at 18, no problem, lots of 18 year olds - but those who were only a year older got irritated by the 18 year olds, and sort of distanced themselves a bit from them, and honed in on those the same age. The 19 + students had had gap years before Uni, and quite noticeably were a bit more sensible and grown up, may be because they'd worked in that year or travelled.
Its different with drama school as there are going to be as you said Caroline A-C some 18 year olds, but perhaps a minority, and many early 20s who have had different life experiences and will tend to bond with those around the same age. I know between 18 and 21 its a huge developmental stage, I was so much more mature at 21, whereas at 18... I was a looney

Obviously I can only speak from the experience of my son, but it does appear that they have bonded as a year regardless of age. Maybe it is due to the fact that they all have the same common interest.

children with performance experience often are used to being with those older than their normal peer group

however, i would be interested to know if other's children have had similar experiences at school to my 2 : both have been involved in school productions, choirs, orchestras, concerts etc, but miss m, who was involved in (and worked dam' hard on) some serious high-powered inter-school stuff whilst in y's 10 and 11 was nevertheless never invited/expected to socialize with the 6th formers in charge

master p however, was invited last year (y9) to the post-school production party with the 6th formers - we didn't let him but agreed to it with some trepidation this year

miss p, who has a wide circle of friends at different schools, thinks it's a girl-boy difference - love to know what others have found

I would not worry at all. The class sizes are much smaller in drama school - 18 in my DDs class - and they with each other all day every day. Trust me they all bond very quickly They are now all so close there is really no difference between those who went at 18 and the older ones ( a couple are 22-3). Their life experiences are all different - some from big cities, others from small places in wales, scotland or ireland, one from Costa Rica. But they all mix so well.

My Dd went to a Sharers Day organised by central and thats how she found her flatmates. She also went to some of the fresher activities so had met most of class before classes began.

You cant really compare it to uni as its such a different expreience.

So don't worry your Dd will be fine

Haven't been on this site for ages and have really enjoyed reading this thread ... ... however my input would have been exactly the same as Welshmums as my dd is on the same coures at CSSD only she is now in her third year and her third and final term... I dont envy you all going through the stress of Drama School auditions but from our point of view it was all worth it in the end. My DD was in a small class of 13 students so they got so much individual attention and they had a terrific tunrout of Agents to their third year Shows a d Showcase . They still have one show to perform this last term but I think 11 out of the 13 have already signed with top agents. Financially it is crippling... we pay her rent which in West Hampstead is not cheap but she can walk to school and their are bursaries available.My DD got a full Bursary from BBC Performing Arts Fund for 2 years which took the pressure off ....I think this is still available albeit in a slightly different form..... fingers crossed to all of you still waiting 11

good luck to your dd. We worry more than they do - its a big change from school hours , but I understand why gap years can be a good choice Some of dds friends still doing recalls or there's always next year !

Hi all. Our DS didn't get into CSSD so its MV for september!! He has made a decision based on the fact that the employment statistics on completion are very favourable and the DaDA also helps.
