Chaperone agency

I am wishing to become a children's chaperone. My local council suggested that I join a chaperone agency. Can any of you extremely helpful NAPMS reccomend any chaperone agencies to me? I would be most grateful.

Where are you based?

I'm afraid I don't know of any chaperone agencies, could your local council give you some suggestions/names since they suggested this to you? If you put "becoming a children's chaperone" into google, you come up with a few, but my understanding was that you still had to become a registered chaperone via your own council.

In the area that I used to live in, the theatre would get a list of registered chaperones from the council... The council vetted/interviewed and approved the chaperones so you became a chaperone via the council.

Something you could do as well as looking for chaperone agencies is to contact all your local theatres and let them know that you are a registered chaperone (if you are one - it's not quite clear from your post) and also contact any actors agencies near to you and let them know that you would be available.

There are chaperone agencies around but you need to licence yourself first and get some experience.
Apply to your local council for a licence and once this is done you can get experience by volunteering at local theatre groups.
Once you feel confident, and have some knowledge of the industry then you could approach some of the big agencies.

Thank you both very, very much for your information.
I live in Hampshire and I am trying to become a registered chaperone. I have contacted the County Council and submitted a licence form to become a registered chaperone. I had a very nice reply saying that I first needed to find a chaperone agency that will take me on and then apply for a licence. This appears to be a bit of a 'chicken' or 'egg' situation'!!
I have been contacted via pm with the name of a chaperone agency i just need to find contact details for them.
Also I will contact the agencies and local theatres as you have suggested. Thank you also for the web page to look at.
I will also contact the local council again to try to get a licence first and then apply to the theatres. I am a teacher and this is looking like a summer holiday job!!!

Don't know why your LEA are saying join a chaperion agency first as you have to be a regestered chaperion to join a agency No one will take you on if you are not regestered so dont see how you can join one if you have not got a licence. I would ask your LEA if they can not regester you as if you are not regestered you can not join a agency.

The process is like a full on job application. When I did it, had to provide reference, had an interview and of course CRB checked. My employers thought I was leaving them when asked for a reference, caused a real stir!! Now they are asking people renewing to go on a child protection course which is causing upset locally to people that have done it for years.

Not sure if it's the same everywhere.

Yes it is the same everywhere.There is an application form and personal statement with references then an interview and crb.The crb references and interview can take months to sort and then there is a child protection course. You would very lucky to have ot all sorted in time for the summer. I had to get mine done for a touring job and the council took forever to sort it all. Only just got it in time. But you need to get it all before an agency will give you any work.

I am sure that I won't get it sorted for the summer I was thinking mOre along the lines of using my summer holiday to try and sort it out. I have given references to council with my application form. I have done child protection courses as a teacher do you think that I will have to do them again?

In my area the cp course is specific to chaperoning and also covers other things to do with chaperoning. We have to do it every 3 years.
