NO auditions!

Post by Bumblebee »

Hello I am new here, my DD was accepted by an agency at the start of the year which was brilliant! the only problem is... we have had no auditions at all! I am very new to all of this so I don't know if there are just no castings around. my DD is 15, I was wondering what auditions other DD's have been getting recently or if there is anything that you know of which we could ask for her to be put forward for? I think it will really boost her confidence to get a casting for something
thankyou for your help

Not to worry, you are not alone :) My dd 14 and same here, unfortunately at this age casting directors can get 16 year olds to play down, so they dont need to be licensed. So unless your 15 year old looks 13 its going to be a difficult time. :(

I'm the same as you igloobabe. My ds 14 and looks older. Was even wondering wether it was worth putting him in spotlight this year as there is so little work for them-still continue with his stage school though :? what do people think?

I had this exact problem when i was 13!! Its a nightmare. I ended up giving up, and just focussing on my theatre group and putting on shows with them until I was 16.

Might be worth sticking it out until she's 16, and then when she is, really drive the agent to push for work, because its easier for CDs that way.

My ds has been focussing on his theatre groups and loving it. At least he's gaining experience in these awkward, inbetween years!

I sympathise I really do
DS is 12 (only just ) and looks 14 but still didn't get into see Ted !
He hasn't had any paid work via the agent since June and that was last minute extra work, before that, months of nothing and a couple of castings which were no hopers as everyone a foot shorter than him.
It can really drag you down looking at what others get that
You can't even be
Considered for, so we don't look now!
Like Mogs said, concentrating on classes and Conti show next year and any amdram opportunities that might come his way.
We are keeping spotlight going and that's about it, it seems such a waste of money at the moment
Even the agents are touting their kids for short films they would have turned their noses up at in the old days..
Keep checking on starnow etc for any local fun opportunities that won't break your bank

I think this is very common at that kind of age.

I am very small (just 5ft!) and have probably stopped growing. And although I will always be happy about being short because of the advantages it can bring in this industry, it does bring a lot of downsides in general life. Just last week I was helping out at a younger years disco at school and one of the new parents asked me how I was enjoying year 8. I then had the very awkward task of explaining to her that I had in fact just started year 13

So yell your DCs to enjoy being tall/ looking older, to enjoy being able to wear flat shoes, to enjoy not having to bring ID with them to the cinema and to enjoy being able to reach things
