My DD did 2 YMTUK productions and loved both of them. She also did the NYT one year. I can recommend both highly - not cheap but you do get value for money. Good luck to everyone auditioning :D

One was a piece they devised, another was a fab musical based on Neil Sedaka songs :)

Her first she was in yr 9 or 10 I think. She did one in Bath, one in Belfast and the NYT was in London - she was 16/17 then as it was self ctaring hall of residence so not as much supervision and the YMTUK ones.

My son has done 2 productions with YMT and I would highly recommend them. They are of an incredibly high standard. And he had a brilliant time.

The main difference between NYMT and YMT is that NYMT produces known works and YMT produces original work. On the second project my son did, the young people were very much part of the creative process - the writer arrived with only one song and at the end of each day, went away and wrote up what they had done that day till they had a musical by the end of the week. Frequently, the same show will be refined over the next year or two by subsequent groups. One which started this way is Loserville which is now in the West End, not as a YMT production but as a professional production with a professional cast.

Welshmum I completely missed your posts   I was in an internet cafe with time running out  . I was wondering about NYT and whether musical theatre people tried for that as well :?

Thanks stars. We did enjoy Loserville :D I think the audience was full of drama school graduates as they were all obviously cheering their mates on stage. Amazing opportunity for so many recent musical theatre graduates :D

Dd and ds finished their NYMT course yesterday and it was announced that NYMT are doing Whistle Down the Wind next year. That's good for the younger age auditioning as lots of parts for "children" but I can't think that ds would get in as his voice has broken and he wouldn't be anything like ready for the "adult" parts :( Hoping he will decide to audition anyway for the experience

Whistle Down the wind is a lovely show that NYMT did a few years ago very successfully.

I think that there may be more than one NYMT production again next year as they are dropping clues on Twitter. A Bernstein classic apparently so West Side Story looks likely. That is a really wonderful show and a great one for the boys.

Thanks amanda, I really hope you are right :D \:D/ West Side story would be a far better bet for ds with his dance experience.

DS had a fantastic time with NYMT this season, very well looked after indeed and learned skills from some of the best in the business!
I highly recommend it! Likewise the YMT appear to be fabulous experience as well.

With massive regret,We are giving it a miss this year, DS is "INbetweeners" now, too young for what I know will be an amazing male cast in (maybe west side story) ;) and too old for the younger kids in Whistle.... The casting team for NYMT are very astute though.
Also it really broke us financially this year, tickets travel fees etc etc it was worth every penny but difficult
I urge anyone to go for the auditions, they are fabulous experience and if you are cast , you will LOVE every second!!
