'Self' Credits...

Post by ruby95 »

I have a couple of 'self' credits and i'm not sure whether to put them on my CV.

One of these is when I was a contestant on the popular CBBC show Smile. Although I was competing in a competition I had to go through a number of telephone auditions in order to get the 'part'.

The other self credit is when I appeared on a BBC history documentary as a school student, having a discussion with the presenter about how the particular era of history being explored in the show was taught in schools. For this I did not have to audition, I was chosen by my school.

Is it appropriate to have either of these on my CV?

I would put them on there fantastic and it shows you have experience in tv, I've seen those types of things on pro cv's before so why not!

I think I'd have to disagree, sorry. I certainly wouldn't include them in any kind of performance credit list. You could consider adding them under the "other information" bit, where you list skills and experiences if you wanted to. I suspect that you have enough interesting credits available to you without including these. Young people at the start of their careers are not expected to have reams of material on their CVs and I just don't think these two credits say anything useful to a CD/Director about your performance/acting experience.

Would you include the footage in a showreel? I suspect not, so I'm not convinced they belong on an acting CV.
